What you’ll be doing
You will be working on the VMware Tanzu Labs Services Strategy team. You’ll help manage our Services Portfolio, and continuous improvement of it based on learnings. You’ll apply your skills in lean UX methodologies, as well as Product Discovery, to the work of ensuring our Services Portfolio has strong market fit. You’ll pair closely with Product Management to manage services through their lifecycle, identifying needs for new services as well as signals that services are no longer valuable. You’ll continuously mine insights from actual engagements delivered by the Services Delivery organization that are relevant for the improvement of the Tanzu product portfolio, and share these insights back with the Product organization. Primarily, you’ll be responsible for ensuring we have a strong system in place for Solution Discovery, which means that we have access to insights from the market and our customers to inform how we evolve how we solve for high-value customer needs in the most efficient way.
You will be responsible for
Solution discovery. Working with teams to discover customer problems, and create valuable, desirable and feasible solutions. Ensuring we have strong feedback loops between sellers, services delivery, customers, partners, and the product team. Working closely with Product Management to ensure that the signals are pulled from the “noise” and acted on, and inform the right backlogs. Ensuring we have a strong system in place for this, and that it successfully scales.
Enablement. Ensuring that we are effectively training people-- on-staff consultants, partners-- to successfully deliver services, ensuring sellers are effectively prepared to sell them, and applying a user-centered approach to how we iterate. This involves strong partnership with a number of teams, internally.
Communications: Ensuring those stakeholders who stand to benefit from learnings through Solution Discovery-- particularly, but not exclusively, members of Product & Services-- are always aware of important patterns and insights, and are creating experiments to act on them as needed. Creating transparency with respect to what we do.
Required Skills & Experience:
5-8 years Software Product Design or similar experience, shipping products to users (enterprise or large-scale consumer products preferred)
Experience navigating large organizations and an understanding of complex stakeholder relationships is a must
Experience with multiple backlog management tools including Jira, Gitlab (and/or enthusiasm to learn)
You are highly competent in all areas of Product Design, from user research, experience, interaction, and visual design.
Experience with lean and agile philosophies
Experience operating in a highly technical environment and translating complex design patterns into simple solutions
Experience in training, mentoring, and/or upskilling designers
Ability to expertly facilitate collaborative design activities in a workshop context
Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills with a strong work ethic
A portfolio of design work that represents your design process
Experience closely collaborating with engineers, designers, project/program managers, and a variety of other roles within an Enterprise
Experience working independently with clients or stakeholders in a consulting role
Familiarity with modern design tools such as Figma or Sketch
Ability to rapidly iterate on prototypes
Ability to articulate design direction and communicate the designs to Product Managers and Software Engineers
Consistently provides direct and impactful feedback in design reviews
Strong consensus and alignment building skills
Frequently engages designers in their own/adjacent product teams to help them grow their skills and design toolkit
Desired Skills and Experience:
Service Design experience
User research experience in technical domains
Some visual identity and branding experience
Experience with data visualization
Contributes to the culture of the Product Design team by participating in design-led projects, events and discussions
