The LEGO Group is seeking a new Procurement Director tohelp enhance it's play experience with new digital components. These digital components introduce The LEGO Group to new competence domains including physical network connectivity, power management, software management and application development.

This role sits within Parts External Manufacturing (PEM), within Procurement. PEM's mission is to design/engineer, source, plan and deliver new parts to the LEGO Group in expected quality through global 3rd party design & manufacturing network partners.

It is the LEGO Group's ambition to shift more focus to the supplier market where digital modules, systems and components are available (most of them resulting from the consumer electronics industry) which are providing required features and functionalities, proven quality reliability and future cost roadmapping.

The access to this new supply base is not limited to component and module suppliers only but extends to design and system houses who can provide reference designs where the negotiation on IP rights derived from patent ownerships, resulting in royalty schemes are very sensitive for the future of the LEGO Group in regards to its digital ambition.

Access to these suppliers is critical as it defines the core functionality of the digital play system as well as providing access to future product-technology roadmap and cost roadmaps.

Core Responsibilities

The mission of Procurement is to ensure access for the LEGO Group to key component global suppliers in terms of innovative technology and roadmaps with guaranteed scalability and capacity allocation. Component Specification and variance management and lead time management are making the equation towards contracting complete.

The role is as such focused on scouting front end technology partners and developing strategic sourcing maps for defined technology clusters in strong cooperation with the internal (and external) development teams.

The role sits at the heart of the transformational exercise repositioning the LEGO Group's product technology approach, leading the strategic in-sourcing of digital key designs from the third party supply base,

Securing access to the roadmaps of key suppliers, define the success of the LEGO Group Digital System Play as it secures our access to the identified “must have” Digital Play Features and Functionalities

System engineering talent with commercial affinity can extend their consumer electronics expertise in an industry sector with an educational focus.

STRATEGIC SOURCING TEAM (SST)

  • Manage together with Development Leader the strategic sourcing teams (tandem procurement – technology staff) for identified limited number of key components. Take accountability for managing each of these SSTs.

  • Define the supplier selection strategy, the related key component supplier technology roadmap strategies with each of the teams for final validation to the LEGO Group SST SteerCo team

  • Lead global contract negotiation covering all aspects (technical, capacity, commercial) with the selected suppliers. Offer the contracts for deployments (and use) in the novelty projects via Statement of Works (see later)

  • Secure access to Software & System houses, Silicon designs, ISV s, FAE s, and the full eco system of key component suppliers. Understand the complications of IP ownership and contracting, T&C s in these contracts

COMMODITY MANAGEMENT

  • Work hand-in-hand with the Procurement Director EMS to make jointly strategic decisions for the LEGO Group over the full value chain (how to sustain access to the critical component suppliers after transfer to the EMS factories)

  • Define cost driven supplier roadmaps for commodity components which are executed via the EMS but supervised by your commodity teams

CATEGORY MANAGEMENT

  • Bring the Procurement Category Management both into your SST and Commodity teams

  • Apply segmentation tools over the supply base and define negotiation strategies documented and maintained in your negotiation handbook.

  • Develop and apply “should costing” methodologies via the above handbook

  • Drive the Purchasing Pricing Variance and Partner for Productivity monthly reporting for all key component clusters (including budgeting)

  • Bring the Sustainability Ambition into the key component sourcing domain (scouting, SST, commodity) hereby driving the Live Cycle Assessment concepts contributing to our target realization.

  • Represent procurement in gates and milestone meetings and beyond in multi functional meetings.

  • Budget the Component NRE and CAPEX/OPEX for novelty projects and monitor progress via Gates/milestones

  • Own and manage the department budget as headcount, Opex, components specific Capex investments

  • Own and manage resilience streams hereby managing the dependency of the overall the LEGO Group revenue from the key component suppliers by deep insight of the supplier nodes in the value chain

  • Apply the relevant digital tools in the above e.g. Coupa application as procurement tool etc...

RELATIONSHIP/ STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Drive stakeholder management which is, due to its criticality in the the LEGO Group Digital System Play, on high level. Represent P&EM in these discussions

  • Ensure strong collaboration with the innovation teams and product technology teams which are globally dispersed

  • Own and drive the regular business review meetings on different level of representation with the supplier: from Top Management Meeting (C level) to Quarterly Business Review Meetings

PEOPLE LEADER

  • Manage a global and multicultural team with respect for Diversity and Inclusion and attention for capabilities development over high tech (SST s) and cost (Commodity) profiles in your team

  • Apply the specific the LEGO Group playground leadership concepts where openness is nurtured via Campfires and curiosity/bravery is stimulated via regular Play

Do you have what it takes?

  • Well developed experience in the capacity of product manager, commercial key account manager in industries like Silicon, Module Design (connectivity modules, MCU s, ….) or Procurement Engineering

  • Negotiation Skills in areas beyond costing e.g. patent & royalty negotiations, joint development agreements, roadmapping negotiations, software and cloud/edge based maintenance contracts, and other agreements,…

  • Understanding system houses and contracting specifics of system houses (IP and governance related)

  • Experienced with front end scouting via International Procurement Expertise Center (internal or external)

  • Having good understanding of capacity development in supply base

  • Strong negotiation, communication, influencing and analytical skills with ability to develop & manage supplier and stakeholder relationships on global and senior level

  • As People Leader being able to develop global teams from different diversity and seniority level

  • Strong strategic & analytical thinking abilities

  • Solution and results orientation with proven ability to deliver

  • Willingness and ability to travel

Additional details for this position

  • This position will initially be based at 501 Boylston St, Back Bay, before moving to a new office location at 1001 Boylston St by the mid-2025. Our hiring teams will discuss this with you during the interview stages. (Only if your role is in the Boston Hub)

  • The salary for this position has a range of $169,279 - $253919 based onanticipatedresponsibilities, market benchmarks, and organizational constraints.The LEGO Group carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including but not limited to prior experience, skills, expertise, location, internal equity, and other considerations permitted by law.The comprehensiveremunerationdetails, inclusive of benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.
