The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the KubeVirt project in Boston, MA. In this role, you will enable community contributions for containers and virtual machines, contributing to industry-leading technologies like Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, libvirt, and QEMU. As a part of a geographically distributed team, you will collaborate with multiple Red Hat’s engineering teams and open source communities around the globe. As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll need to be motivated, curios, and passionate about problem-solving, Linux technologies, and open source.
Primary job responsibilities
Serve as the technical lead for all Kubevirt community activities; proactively engage in upstream conversations on mailing lists, forums, GitHub, etc., to accelerate the community know-how and increase project adoption
Gain technical proficiency in KubeVirt and its ecosystem (Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, KVM)
Lead meaningful conversations with developers and users
Guide productive discussions with multiple stakeholders in the community
Help organize and produce documentation, READMEs, blog posts, and website pages
Ensure quality and technical correctness, maintainability and freshness of information, and continuous integration for documented procedures
Manage website statistics and proactively guide activities for increased traffic
Participate in an agile group activities (planning, implementation, and retrospective)
Collaborate with other community managers to increase momentum of Red Hat’s technologies
Be responsible for event planning and participation; identify relevant conferences, find speakers and organize booth presence (e.g., material and demo), present sessions and technical demos, prepare labs (interactive courses) and assist during their realization, and manage budget and order swag as needed
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent working experience
Experience working in the container ecosystem (Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift)
Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English
