Wayfair Principal Software Engineer, Search & Recommendations in Boston, Massachusetts

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We are hiring our first </span><strong>Principal Software Engineer</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> to be the technical leader and visionary for Search &amp; Recommendations.&nbsp; From </span><strong>tens of millions of products</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">, Search &amp; Recs provides the most relevant recommendations for every single customer across Wayfair’s placements.&nbsp; Our technology serves personalized recommendations </span><strong>within milliseconds</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and our services are called over one billion times daily.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In this role, you will be our team’s most senior technical visionary, developing our future technical roadmap and ensuring that our engineering and data science teams are building the world’s best discovery platform for home.&nbsp; </span></p>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Act as a m</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">ultiplier across the engineering organization. Actively participate in larger Wayfair architecture discussions to unlock:</span></li>

<ul>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">API consistency, discoverability, reuse</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Code quality</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Platform observability</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Integration patterns across teams (i.e. Domain driven design, event driven arch)</span></li>

</ul>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Be recognized as an&nbsp; “enabler” who makes multiple teams more productive through tooling, working on the meta problem of engineering and ML development in particular as a process</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Encourage and promote a culture of innovation, results and world-class engineering across the wider engineering community</span></li>

<p><strong>What You'll Need:</strong></p>

<ul>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Extensive experience across a range of contexts, with a preference for candidates with large-company, start-up and platform building experience</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hands-on experience driving platform transformations within high-growth environments at scale</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Deep machine learning engineering exposure - knows how models should be trained, built, deployed, and served.</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Experience with big data technologies</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Experience designing microservice architectures</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Deep knowledge of information retrieval technologies, e.g., ElasticSearch</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Experience with large scale distributed systems</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Superior organizational and analytical skills with hypothesis-driven problem solving and turning data into actionable insights</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ability to collaborate and influence at all levels across business and technology&nbsp;</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience</span></li>
