The Metro Boston Mental Health Units at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital are looking for a motivated,Mental Health Worker II.
_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_
The Mental Health Worker II provides direct care services in the skills of daily living by instructing and/or assisting patients in feeding, bathing, toileting, dressing, cleaning and clothing maintenance, oral and physical hygiene, self-preservation, etc., including taking and reporting vital signs to ensure the daily needs, dignity and human rights of the patients are met. In order to better serve our patients and to promote safety, the Mental Health Worker will make attempts to establish a rapport with all patients; and will also practice the principles of Safety, Hope and Healing. This includes delivering trauma-informed care, utilizing de-escalation techniques and the patients’ Individual Crisis Plans.
A Mental Health Worker II provides 15 minute checks and 1:1 or constant observation as ordered; responding efficiently and effectively to emergency situations, as well as other duties as assigned. They also provide supervision and guidance to the Mental Health Worker I’s and supports the Mental Health Worker III’s and IV’s in ensuring care is provided safely; efficiently; and with dignity and respect for the individuals we serve.

At the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, we take pride in helping people recover from illnesses and conditions that are often underserved or difficult to manage in other health care settings. The DMH units within the Hospital provide inpatient psychiatric services to adults with serious mental illness with the goal of enhancing autonomy, safety and return to the community.
Patients are treated by a multidisciplinary team, led by attending psychiatrists which also includes psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, mental health workers, occupational therapists and rehabilitative staff specializing in vocational, recreational and expressive therapies. A variety of treatment modalities are used, including psychopharmacologic, psychotherapeutic (individual, group and family), psycho-educational, behavioral, cognitive and milieu therapies.
Shift Hours: 2:45 PM to 11:15 PM
Days Off: Week 1 – Sunday/Friday; Week 2 – Wednesday/ Saturday

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in providing direct care service to the mentally ill, emotionally or physically handicapped, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in psychology, human services, mental health or retardation may be substituted for the required experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
