Medical Director, Decisions Support

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

Post-sales support: Key senior clinical resource to support account management in customer retention and value realization (ROI) for the InterQual product suite for Payer and Providers to include:

  • In conjunction with account management on assigned strategic clients to develop and execute client specific strategies focused on value demonstration and retention for top tier clients.

  • In conjunction with account management and sales, help achieve budgeted customer retention.

  • Assess client risks and involves appropriate business SME’s as appropriate for clearly defined “rescue” activities

  • Develop executive relationships in both payers and hospitals; this individual should view role as a thought leader, as well as a trusted consultant, who can maximize the value of purchased decision management solutions. This includes building relationships with CMO’s and other physician executives

  • Lead efforts to ensure assigned clients have a full understanding of our portfolio and workflow is maximized

  • Develop business cases with analyst support and partner with the analytics team on value analysis to be shared with internal staff and customers as warranted

  • Lead physician InterQual overviews and “training” sessions for payers’ clients

    Thought leadership demonstrated through the following:

  • Strategic speaking engagements at industry conferences or medical associations

  • White papers or articles in industry journals

  • Joint speaking engagements at partner conferences

  • Serve as senior business executive to bring client experiences back to the development teams to help inform product strategies and roadmaps

    Presales Support: Key senior clinical resource to support presales for the InterQual product suite for both Payers and Providers to include:

  • Supports the validation of the client’s business problem and engages in the Sales process. Serves as the physician presales lead who can discuss all areas of the portfolio

  • Supports the development of sales collateral creation, product demonstrations, business case discussions where relevant, and presentations to customer executives

  • Assists in the development of clinical “solution blueprints” to validate design and workflow fit and impact

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Must be a licensed physician, with health care operations or consulting experience

  • 7+ years hospital, healthcare consulting, or payer expertise, with at least 3 years of management experience.

What critical skills are needed for you to consider someone for this position?

  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of industry trends including knowledge of utilization management/care management processes and workflow.

  • Knowledge/use of InterQual criteria required, prior active clinical practice experience preferred. Knowledge/use of MCG may be considered

  • Excellent communication skills enabling effective communication at prospect/customer staff, managerial, and executive levels.

  • Ability to learn and demonstrate deep knowledge of the entire decision support portfolio

  • Ability to influence others both internally and externally

  • MS Office proficiency

What are the working conditions and physical requirements of this job?

  • General office demands/Home office

How much should I expect to travel?

  • Up to 60% travel requirement

  • Employees in roles that require travel will need to be able to qualify for a company credit card or be able to use their own personal credit card for travel expenses and submit for reimbursement.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Education/Training – Licensed physician, with health care operations or consulting experience

Business Experience – 7-10 years hospital, healthcare consulting, or payer expertise, with at least 3 years of management experience. Must have an in-depth knowledge of industry trends including knowledge of utilization management/care management processes and workflow. Knowledge/use of InterQual criteria, as well as prior active clinical practice experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

Environment – General office/home office environment with 50-60% travel requirement.

Physical Requirements– General office and travel-related (both personal and commercial) demands.

Flexibility Available within work Schedule (partial week)
