The Cancer Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center delivers advanced cancer care by providing patients with personalized treatment, clinical excellence, and latest in research. We are looking for a manager to oversee pharmacy teams working in outpatient oncology practice in Boston and Needham. The position oversees daily operations of Boston and Needham Oncology Satellite Pharmacies with direct supervision of the pharmacists working in both infusion and ambulatory roles. The position supports the following responsibilities including but not limited to:

•Guides and directs clinical practice initiatives in outpatient oncology ambulatory and infusion practice

•Creates and maintains pharmacist staffing and vacation schedule

•Collaborates with ambulatory infusion director & hematology/oncology inpatient manager to review and approve non-formulary medications and operationalizing medication build

•Collaborates with pharmacy operations team to oversee adherence of USP 795, 797, and 800 compliance in each satellite location

•Oversees quality control, continuous process improvement, and adherence of medication safety standards

•Hires and trains new staff, conducts performance evaluations, and

maintains competencies

•Collaborates with purchasing team to maintain oncology medication

stewardship with appropriate par levels, oversight of drug shortages, and ordering of non-formulary medications

•Supports coverage of infusion clinic as needed

Job Description:

  1. Practices pharmacy in accordance with laws, rules and regulation of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Maintains credentials in accordance with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.

  2. Collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy Operations and Pharmacy Leadership to develop and implement pharmacy programs and services in support of the pharmacy mission and strategic plan.

  3. Provides leadership and direction to the Pharmacy Team/s; Manages staff resources to ensure staffing plans (pharmacist team schedule) meets departmental and patient care needs.

  4. Responsible for performance evaluations; staff training and development; team building; recruitment; vacation/leave approvals; disciplinary matters and other related personnel management duties.

  5. Serves as a pharmacy leader and active participant in hospital committees as needed.

  6. Works collaboratively with other health care providers and the pharmacy team members to develop and maintain a sound formulary system to support evidence based pharmaceutical care and cost-effective drug utilization. Develops and implements policies, guidelines, standard operating procedures and other related practice documents.

  7. Serves in a leadership role in the development and management of educational and training programs for the pharmacy staff, pharmacy residents, students and other health care professionals. Coordinates competency assessments, career ladder evaluations and other staff development programs.

  8. Promotes positive relations and actively contributes to a supportive work environment. Fosters a team environment within the department and effective inter-disciplinary collaboration.

  9. Plans efficient and effective utilization of resources.

  10. Maintain expertise and up to date knowledge in appropriate specialty practice area, providing consultation with other health care professionals as appropriate.

  11. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: More than 7 Indirect Reports: 6-10

  12. Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Doctoral degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred.

License Massachusetts Pharmacist required.

3-5 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required

Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

PGY-1 or Pharmacy Administrative Practice Residency.

Board Certification in Related Practice.

Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
