Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Maintenance Mechanic to join our team on our main campus. This individual will be responsible for conducting preventative maintenance work and responding to emergency situations that arise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair work on all equipment systems and fixtures in the building and on the grounds.

  • Respond to requests for emergency maintenance and repairs.

  • Work under the direction of the Services supervisor and accept instructions and assignments from the Assistant supervisor.

  • Make determinations, in the absence of the supervisor or Assistant supervisor, on whether the 'beeper person' should be called.

  • Understand and participate in the proper communication system set up by the Maintenance Department.

  • Complete monthly maintenance and safety reports.

  • Assist in the distribution of supplies.

  • Maintain all building grounds to ensure they are clean and a neighborhood asset (e.g., mowing, raking, snow removal).

  • Maintain all equipment and tools pertinent to your work.

  • Maintain positive working relationships and communication with housing staff.

  • Attend core curriculum training and other related training as required.

  • Perform other related duties as required or directed by the supervisor.

  • Perform additional duties, and/or work at alternative locations in the event of weather or other emergencies.

  • Comply with all workplace health and safety requirements and elevate matters impacting health and safety to the supervisor.

  • Comply with and model compliance with all policies, including illness prevention and occupational health policies.

  • Accept other duties or work locations as assigned in order to meet the needs of the organization during weather or other emergencies.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of residential, institutional or commercial maintenance experience.

  • Experience in light construction and general handyman tasks.

  • General knowledge of trades such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical.

  • Ability to bend, stand, reach, and sit for extended periods.

  • Ability to climb stairs and small steps.

Work Environment

The work environment is similar to an apartment complex or large hotel, with a mix of indoor work and exterior maintenance tasks. This is not a large industrial building or high-rise, providing a diverse and engaging work setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boston, Massachusetts.
