The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) under the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an experienced Locksmith for the Jamaica Plain Campus. The Locksmith installs lock devices in doors, desks, office equipment and other units. The incumbent in this role trouble shoots locks. Makes repairs to locking devices, replaces worn parts, makes alterations in mechanisms, orders necessary supplies and changes lock combinations. The Locksmith prepares sketches, drawings and diagrams and maintains record of related work performed. Please Note: The shift hours for this position are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Days off are Saturday and Sunday. _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive:_ * Installs lock devices in doors, desks, office equipment and other units according to blueprints, sketches and manuals by cutting holes in wood or metal according to specified dimensions and by fastening together parts of locks with bolts and rivets using hand tools and handheld power tools. * Repairs and/or overhauls locking devices such as mortise, rim, key-in-the knob locks, dead bolt, office equipment, padlocks and emergency exit locks by repairing or replacing worn tumblers, springs or other parts of locking devices; by making alterations to locking mechanisms and units; and/or by replacing escutcheons and face plates on doors to change the size of existing holes to assure correct fit. * Repairs and/or installs locks containing dual locking capabilities by reworking locking devices designed to work in conjunction with other components and equipment to form a complete security or surveillance system. * Changes lock combinations by inserting new or repaired tumblers into locks in order to increase security effectiveness. * Trouble shoots locking devices by determining appropriate techniques and trade practices to be followed; by deciding which components comprising the locking system are malfunctioning; and by making operational tests to determine the extent and location of malfunctions in locking devices to repair or replace the necessary parts. * Prepares sketches, drawings and diagrams to identify tolerances, dimensions and critical parts or surfaces relative to locking devices. * Performs related duties such as cutting duplicate keys; removing broken keys from locks; opening locks without keys or combinations; cleaning and lubricating lock assemblies; and maintaining records concerning work performed, type and coding of lock installations and location of locks and keys. _Required Qualifications:_ * Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the repair of locks or lock assemblies. * Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in installing locks or lock assemblies. * Knowledge of methods and techniques used in making and cutting keys. * Skill in the methods and techniques of making and cutting keys. * Ability to read and interpret such documents as plans, specifications, blueprints, etc. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Must be able to adjust and install Maglocks * Knowledge of seal and bearings repair _About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:_ Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity. Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 260 inpatient beds including 115 Psychiatric beds and 28 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction inmates and community patients. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Sub Oxone clinic serving 200 patients.
