The Attorney General’s Office is looking to hire a Legal Analyst in its Insurance & Financial Services Division (IFSD), which handles the investigation and litigation of consumer protection matters relating to lending, investments, and insurance under G.L. c. 93A §4, c. 12 § 5B, c. 12 § 11F, and other statutes.

Primary Duties: Legal Analysts are attorneys who assist Assistant Attorneys General in the investigation/litigation of consumer protection cases by coordinating and participating in the review of large scale electronic document productions, analyzing data, conducting legal research, assisting in the development of investigative strategies and plans, helping to prepare for witness interviews and examinations under oath, and drafting legal documents for review by Assistant Attorneys General. In addition, Legal Analysts are responsible for handling additional Division duties, including the factual investigation, research, and mediation of consumer disputes relating to insurance policies, investment products, and lending agreements. Mediation may involve navigating government administrative processes and/or negotiation with private entities.

Position Type: Full-time/Non-Exempt

Salary: $48,000

Position Requirements: JD from an accredited law school required; admission to Massachusetts bar preferred. Applicants with a strong work ethic and a strong interest in economic and social justice are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be highly motivated, intellectually curious, and able to learn and master new and complicated subject areas. Attentiveness to detail is a must. Familiarity with insurance, banking, and securities law is helpful, as is knowledge of insurance and investment products, superior court rules and practices, the securitization industry, the for-profit school industry, and student lending and debt collection practices. Experience with deposition preparation, settlement implementations, consumer outreach, legal research and writing, retrieval and analysis of investment data, and the use of document review platforms including One are highly desirable. Proficiency in programs such as Microsoft Excel and Access is useful. Applicants must be comfortable working autonomously, but also as part of a team.
