What We Need

At BCBSMA, we are seeking an experienced Lead Full Stack Engineer to drive our cutting-edge technology initiatives in an agile environment. As a hands-on leader, you will guide the end-to-end development process, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions. Your role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, contributing to the product strategy discussions, mentoring, and training a skilled team of Full stack engineers while upholding coding standards and best practices. Operating in a fast-paced setting, you will thrive on innovation, contributing to the adoption of the latest technologies and tools.

In addition to your technical leadership, you will foster a culture of continuous learning, and emphasize collaboration with other teams to align development efforts with broader organizational goals. Your adaptability and resilience will be crucial as you manage multiple priorities and deadlines to make a significant impact on our projects, contribute to our commitment to technological excellence and actively shape our product strategy.

Your Day to Day

  • Provide guidance and leadership throughout the full software development life cycle.

  • Hands-on involvement on creating coding standards, best practices and development tasks.

  • Participate in agile ceremonies ad collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with Initiative goals.

  • Participate in product strategy discussions to align with development efforts with overarching goals.

  • Contribute insights on technical feasibility and implementation strategies.

  • Address and troubleshoot complex technical issues in timely manner.

  • Propose and implement effective solutions to overcome development challenges.

  • Provide mentorship, training and guidance to the Junior engineers.

  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

  • Develops and evangelizes automation to optimize operational processes.

  • Oversees creation and maintenance of technical documentation and user guides in support of developed software.

  • Maintains high-level of familiarity with BCBSMA IT system/business application capabilities to make critical operational & design decisions.

  • Effectively communicates project expectations, issues, risks, and decisions to project team and business stakeholders.

We’re Looking for:

  • Experience using any one of container technologies: VMware Tanzu (previously Pivotal Cloud Foundry) or Kubernetes based container technologies like OpenShift and AWS EKS.

  • AWS managed services: DynamoDB, S3, Postgres SQL, EKS, Amazon Kafka (MSK), OpenSearch etc. Preferably from a prior development and engineering background in the Java ecosystem.

  • REST API’s using Java/EE, Spring/Spring Boot, Spring Cloud etc.

  • Prior experience in modernizing legacy applications, migrating monolithic code to microservices architectures, performance tuning and application monitoring, conducting cost benefit, risk analysis etc.

  • Experience designing and implementing event driven systems leveraging message broker, event bus and streaming technologies like IBM Message Broker/MQ, IBM IIB, AWS Managed Kafka, Confluent connectors etc.

  • Good knowledge and hands-on experience with API security standards like Oauth, SAML, 2way SSL.

  • Experience with API Gateways like Apigee, AWS API Gateway etc.

  • Knowledge and experience with CI/CD tools, frameworks, and methodologies like Jenkins, Maven, Jira, ServiceNow, GitLab, Junit, Blue/Green etc.

  • Experience implementing and maintaining EDI transaction processing in the Healthcare domain

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent is required.

  • 10+ years of technology experience. Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in backend technology stack (Java, Spring/SpringBoot, databases etc) and platforms (Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, OCP, etc.)

  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience with REST APIs including micro services architecture and other middleware, event driven development tools & components (MQ, KAFKA, SOA, ESB).

  • 4 plus years of experience in AWS Cloud or equivalent & API Gateways (Apigee preferred)

  • 4 plus years of implementation experience using DevSecOps tools to build CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience modernizing legacy applications and re-design of monolithic apps.

  • Experience working in an agile work environment.

  • Experience in leading, mentoring teams and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

  • Healthcare experience working with EDI transactions (Eligibility, Claims, enrollment, authorization etc) preferred.

  • Understanding security best practices is preferred.

  • Technology certifications preferred.

Salary Range: $138,870.00 - $169,730.00

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
