The Innovation Director in Well-B’s Innovation Center will lead a multi-disciplinary team (matrixed and direct management) in idea generation, solutioning, prototyping, and initiating the pilots of innovative solutions and technologies that will create a competitive advantage for BCBSMA. In addition, s/he will lead and evolve BCSMA’s innovation capabilities across strategic objectives, including methodology development, external analysis, and relationship management. In collaboration with BCBSMA business leaders and industry stakeholders, in alignment with BCBSMA strategic priorities, this position will work to evaluate current trends and ideas; identify emerging capabilities, solutions and technologies; gain buy-in and support from leaders, associates, customers, and partners; and advance a portfolio of innovation initiatives to market. This position reports to the VP of Innovation.

Position Summary:

This position is located in Boston, Massachusetts, in the Well-B Innovation Center

The Innovation Director in Well-B’s Innovation Center will lead a multi-disciplinary team (matrixed and direct management) in idea generation, solutioning, prototyping, and initiating the pilots of innovative solutions and technologies that will create a competitive advantage for BCBSMA. In addition, s/he will lead and evolve BCSMA’s innovation capabilities across strategic objectives, including methodology development, external analysis, and relationship management. In collaboration with BCBSMA business leaders and industry stakeholders, in alignment with BCBSMA strategic priorities, this position will work to evaluate current trends and ideas; identify emerging capabilities, solutions and technologies; gain buy-in and support from leaders, associates, customers, and partners; and advance a portfolio of innovation initiatives to market. This position reports to the VP of Innovation.

Duties include:

· Engage with BCBSMA business leaders and with key areas of the business to forge relationships and understand the challenges and strategic goals.

· Evolve innovation strategies for BCBSMA to align to corporate strategies, position it for market success, and align to cultural innovation ambitions

· Identify opportunities for innovation by understanding problems, needs, and ideas from the business, the customers (employers, providers, brokers), and the members (consumers).

· Build a pipeline of ideas, manage the pipeline, and prioritize the pipeline through criteria that ensures alignment to the strategic goals and desired focus areas

· Explore vendors and technologies in the market that could provide a solution or component of a solution, and make build, buy, partner recommendations.

· Jointly, with the business leadership, pitch prioritized ideas to senior executives to secure approval and funding to advance through the innovation process.

· Track changes in the healthcare vendor, technology, and start-up landscape over time, and engage in conversations and relationship development that may either inform or assist in the development of information sharing, ideation, prototypes, and plans

· Develop events associated with strategic innovation tracks/hunting grounds to further sophistication of thoughts on these topics and recognition of BCBSMA as leader on key industry topics

· Partner with a variety of stakeholders to further understand areas impacting BCBSMA’s business and to develop prototypes; partners may include provider systems, vendors, academic institutions, accounts, think tanks, incubators, community-based organizations, and more

· Coach innovation team members in the ongoing development of innovation skills, as well as BCBSMA associates

· Has experience leading a diverse group of people in both matrixed and direct reporting structures

The Innovation Director is a high-performing associate who:

· Has an in-depth understanding of the healthcare landscape

· Has an understanding of human-centered design/design thinking

· Has familiarity with agile / lean and/or similar methodologies

· Has an ability to apply start-up vendor solutions and emerging technologies to the needs of the healthcare industry

· Is able to excel in environments where tasks can be ambiguous and complicated but still create and deliver solutions that senior executives can easily understand

· Effectively formulates innovative solutions in an iterative and rapid manner following the innovation process and model

· Establishes a variety of metrics (eg. revenue, medical cost, administrative cost, net promoter score, clinical effectiveness, consumer adoption, attendance, etc.) designed to track the effectiveness and value of potential solutions; and tracks the impacts of solutions over time

Qualifications:

· Undergraduate degree required, Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in Healthcare, Business Administration and/or Information Technology,

· 15+ years of work experience in any combination of healthcare, consulting, and consumer technologies
