Boston University FINANCIAL AID COUNSELOR, Enrollment, Financial Assistance in BOSTON, Massachusetts

About the Role

Boston University Financial Assistance seeks a Financial Aid Counselor. This is an entry-level professional position, responsible for the review of educational loan eligibility for undergraduate and graduate student populations. This position also responds to inquiries from the 15 Graduate Financial Aid Offices regarding federal, state, institutional and loan eligibility to Boston University graduate students. It also supports the operations and systems area of the office and provides customer service over the phone and email. The Financial Aid Counselor works closely with colleagues within Financial Assistance and Graduate Aid offices, as well as with other University offices including Admissions, the Office of the University Registrar, and the Combined Enrollment Services customer service office. This role reports to the Senior Assistant Director of Financial Assistance.

The Financial Aid Counselor's primary duties include:

  • Processing, analyzing and resolving conflicting information on student financial aid applications to facilitate the processing of federal, state, and private education loans;

  • Assisting in the processing and resolution of federal loans via monitoring and error reports, and;

  • Providing guidance and support to the Graduate Financial Aid Offices regarding the financial aid application process and applying for educational loans.

    Boston University Financial Assistance is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). BU Financial Assistance plays a critical role in ENSA's mission; enrolling and retaining students, securing external funding and generating tuition revenue through strategic discounting. BU Financial Assistance provides important services through timely and accurate review of financial aid applications, awarding of financial aid funds, processing of loans, and by providing counseling to students and parents on the financial aid process, programs and related issues.
