Job Description

Under the direction and in consultation with the Senior Vice President of Partnerships & Social Responsibility, the Executive will represent the YMCA of Greater Boston as the Lead Agent for Community Hub Schools in Boston. A Community Hub School is a place and a set of strategic partnerships among a school and other community resources that promote student achievement, positive conditions for learning and the well-being of families and communities. Through the work of the Y, each Community School will leverage unique community resources to meet community needs, and maintains a core focus on children, while recognizing that children grow up in families, and that families are integral parts of communities. This integrated approach will lead to student success, strong families and healthy communities.

This position will oversee 4 Community Hub School Coordinators and work closely with all stakeholders and partner leads for this strategy.

Key Functions/Responsibilities:

The Executive Director is the Lead/Coordinating Partner and has the following roles and responsibilities in connection with the YMCA of Greater Boston partnership with the school district and other partner agencies:

  • Supervise each of the 4 Hub School Coordinators in their day-to-day operations

  • Organize and/or provide training and professional development as needed to Hub School Coordinators

  • Oversee the implementation of each school’s needs assessment

  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with partners across Boston

  • Work closely with BPS, partners, school administration, parents, Hub School coordinators, and other stakeholders to manage non-BPS resources across the Hub Schools, with a primary focus on equity.

  • Manage existing funding partnerships and reporting requirements.

  • Work with the YMCA Development office, BPS, program partners and funding partners to secure the necessary funding for long-term program sustainability

  • Serve as organizational representative with the school district and in the wider public

  • Represent the Y’s priorities and needs within the partnership

  • Articulate the skills and competencies that make the Y a valuable partner

  • Balance the needs of the Y with those of the school and other partners

  • Attend regular “check-in” meetings with the principals and Coordinators

  • Respond to issues beyond the scope of the Coordinator

  • Seek publicity opportunities within the wider community and district in collaboration with Marketing Department

  • Build relationship with schools and partners by including the school in the Y’s organizational events

  • Connect policy- and other leaders with community school(s)

  • Oversee evaluation and ensures its usefulness to improving understanding and quality of programming and services

Outcomes and position expectations:

An effective Lead Agent works with all stakeholders – staff, students, families, and neighborhood residents – to develop and implement a vision that gives all of them access to opportunities and services they might ordinarily not have.

  • BS/BA Four-year college degree.

  • Experience working with Boston Public Schools and city of Boston leadership

  • Certified Organizational Leader with a minimum of five to eight years of professional YMCA experience

Skills/Know How:

  • Superior Communication skills- both written and verbal.

  • Models cultural competence and supports diversity, effectively working with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions

  • Must have a thorough understanding of the nature of the YMCA movement, volunteers and staff in the accomplishments of the YMCA goals, objectives and mission in the community.

  • Possess a concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility.

  • Must be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude towards the YMCA, character development and our mission.
