Boston Public Schools Early College Coordinator [Charlestown High] SY2425 in Boston, Massachusetts

General Job Description and Goals: The Early College (EC) Coordinator is responsible for cultivating and fostering positive working relationships between higher education partners, work partners, and other intermediaries to build programs and activities that will result in college and career readiness for students. This individual will work regularly with the CHS Leadership Team and collaborate with Charlestown High School (CHS) staff, post-secondary school staff, Boston Public Schools, and community or business partners. CHS is in the process of expanding access to Early College programs across Charlestown High School, with a focus on equitable access for all students, particularly multilingual learners and students with disabilities. The EC Coordinator will serve as the key point-person for stakeholders connected to this expansion work inside and outside of CHS, to fortify Charlestown HS students’ transition into further education and career experiences upon graduation from high school. The EC Coordinator will also oversee and lead the building of a post-secondary (Year 13) support program, working with district and post-secondary staff to design and implement a support program for CHS students matriculating to our core Early College partner, Bunker Hill Community College. Key Responsibilities: Execute the vision of an inclusive Early College vision for Charlestown High School, where all interested students have access points to EC programming, through coordination of all administrative, planning, and logistical functions, with internal and external stakeholders. Develop an introductory series of EC learning experiences for incoming CHS students that will facilitate Charlestown High School’s college and career pathway programs, beginning at students’ entry points at Grades 7 & 9 and accommodating for students joining CHS throughout the academic year. Based on needs assessment and identified priorities, facilitate development of partnerships with community-based organizations to provide academic support, enrichment programs, internships, summer employment and other services. This work will be done in conjunction with CHS Leadership. Conduct program assessments and work closely with faculty and partners to improve the quality of programming and services that serve CHS EC and the CHS school-wide goals. Ensure that partners align to the school and district priorities and expectations as well as the school improvement plan and the school’s strategic plan. Plan and implement a comprehensive dual enrollment program with Bunker Hill Community College and additional City of Boston higher-education and advanced training programs. Work with CHS Leadership Team and CHS Guidance Team to develop course offerings and sequences in the CHS schedule that support EC. Work closely with Family Liaison to increase visibility and knowledge of Early College programming across BPS and to foster family/school connections and better engage parents in their children’s learning. Work with CHS faculty & partners to develop opportunities and onramps to recruit and support underrepresented groups into EC/Pathways programs, specifically Students With Disabilities (SWD) and Multilingual Learners (MLs). Assist the school in the collection, analysis, and application of relevant data, Participate in forums and professional development that deepen knowledge and skills related to College, Career, and Life Readiness, and work with CHS leadership to enable coordination of services. The Early College Coordinator must maintain a working knowledge of Early College, Dual Enrollment and Career Pathway initiatives across the state and nationally. Meet regularly with pathways teachers and administrators to understand program needs and develop student supports. Plan and facilitate weekly Early College team meetings and bi-annual retreats, supervise two (2) student-facing EC staff members, provide feedback on an ongoing basis, and in collaboration with a CHS leadership team member, evaluate these two employees. Meet regularly with Early College Work Based Learning staff, Guidance, and CHS MyCAP team to outline and assess goals, vision, and deliverables related to career-connected learning and real-world opportunities for students during and after the school day. Coordinate the communication, networking and support of alumni as needed, including those participating in a Year13 program and those serving as consultants and mentors to current CHS students. Work with school leadership to monitor use and effectiveness of programs, detailed by the documents of business partnership agreements and organizational MOA’s with nonprofits. Provide support for students enrolled in the program with: Creating student schedules Meeting with students individually on a regular basis Identifying areas of support for students Creating appropriate curriculum for college, career, and academic/social opportunities Additional duties and tasks as directed by the school leader. Qualifications: Required: A strong commitment to the education and development of children and youth At least three-years’ experience in the education, customer service and/or youth development field in a leadership role (Coordinator/Manager/Director, etc) Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Strong management /organizational abilities Excellent oral presentation, writing, and computer skills Ability to gather data and analyze program outcomes Strong people skills with the ability to work with a team Flexible schedule (occasional meetings outside of normal work hours) Ability to comfortably use technology Preferred: Master’s degree or equivalent experience Familiarity with the Boston Public Schools, local nonprofit organizations, and business community. Salaries are listed by Unions and Grade/Step. NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
