Cadmus Drinking Water & Wastewater Senior Specialist in Boston, Massachusetts

What You’ll Be Doing

This position will apply your in-depth understanding of drinking water and wastewater system operations, infrastructure, regulations, and related programs to support the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Water and other government clients in their mission to ensure safe, clean, and resilient water resources. You would provide technical assistance to drinking water and wastewater utilities to address current challenges and identify strategies for building resilience to climate change and other risks. You would also contribute technical, programmatic, and policy insights primarily related to Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and Clean Water Act (CWA) implementation at the state, EPA Region, or utility level. The successful candidate would be comfortable communicating and working with water and wastewater utility operators and managers and their regulators and have a strong familiarity with the challenges operators face.

This position can be based out of Cadmus’ offices in Arlington, VA; Bethesda, MD; Boston, MA; Waltham, MA; or Madison, WI. A fully remote position may be considered depending on candidate qualifications. Some travel to provide onsite assistance and training to drinking water and wastewater systems is anticipated.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute technical knowledge related to drinking water and wastewater utilities and regulatory program implementation oversight activities to projects.

  • Provide technical assistance to drinking water and wastewater operators to address compliance challenges.

  • Provide technical assistance to drinking water and wastewater operators to conduct climate vulnerability and risk assessments and integrate climate considerations into planning, policy, and operations.

  • Lead the development of client-ready products, such as research summaries to inform water program strategies or educational resources for water utilities and the public.

  • Prepare and present webinars and trainings for external audiences on drinking water and wastewater topics.

  • Demonstrate professionalism and sound judgment in interactions with clients and other external audiences.

  • Coordinate and manage projects, including planning project schedules, coordinating support staff activities, tracking progress toward meeting milestones, and tracking budget expenditures.

  • Perform quality control activities by reviewing draft deliverables to verify technical accuracy and ensure that client needs and contract requirements are satisfied.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, public health, water resources management, or a related discipline.

  • At least 12 years of relevant professional experience in a consulting, government agency, or wastewater utility position. Experience with drinking water and wastewater system operations, infrastructure, and regulations is required. A Master’s degree may substitute for 2 years of professional experience.

  • Certification as a drinking water and/or wastewater operator is preferred.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing environments, and work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills and experience presenting to groups.

  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to work under deadlines.

  • Ability to travel as necessary for onsite technical assistance and trainings.

  • Positive work ethic in all situations with coworkers, project managers, and clients.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States as a U.S Permanent Resident or U.S. Citizen.

The minimum starting salary for this position is $114,000. The actual salary may be higher and will be determined by several factors, including relevant work experience, education, skills, and market competitiveness.
