Job Details

We are looking for a Director of Engineering to drive innovation, empower and motivate a team of seasoned engineers in an agile environment. Within Salesforce, you will be part of a global team that builds an infrastructure and a delivery pipeline for one of the biggest AI platforms in the industry called Einstein.

Your technical aptitude will be used to lead the team to create enterprise architecture designs, standard documentation, transition, and migration strategies. The team will draw on your past experience leading software engineering efforts, providing leadership direction, overseeing development projects, product definition through authoring engineering plans, epics and user stories, and overall team health and efficiency.

Together with your team you will be solving the infrastructure, release, and deployment-related problems with code, and be part of key projects in the design, development, and maintenance tools used by various internal teams at Salesforce. In this role your teams will also be responsible for managing existing software/tools to support production releases, drive processes to convert to a full service ownership model. The team will have to engineer solutions that move us along our journey towards zero-touch, highly scalable, reliable infrastructure services. Automate, optimize and drive efficiency of effort, code, and process. Resolve complex technical issues and drive innovations that improve system availability, resilience and performance. Create, maintain and share technical documentation used by engineers and other team members.

A Successful Candidate Will Be

  • Demonstrating ability to coordinate people and activities across multiple functional areas across organization, share vision and direct to a common goal

  • Passionate about production engineering in general and site reliability engineering specifically

  • Passionate about engineering productivity, service ownership, and customer trust & customer success

  • Driving and delivering functionality and implement processes within Einstein as part of larger Salesforce organization

  • Hands on technical details, experienced in infrastructure and feature delivery

  • Excited by building reliable, self-healing services on Public Cloud infrastructure

  • Passionate about Continuous Integration and Delivery and driving teams to adopt this service ownership delivery model

  • Ability to formulate and articulate strategy/vision and effectively drive consensus across the organization

  • Participating in architecture discussions and planning

  • Leading cross organizational activities providing horizontal service to Einstein teams

Basic Requirements

  • BS/MS degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, Engineering, or a closely related discipline

  • 10+ years of hands on software development experience

  • 10+ years managing development or mixed engineering teams

  • Experience scaling and managing 20+ person teams

  • Experience in Public Cloud Environment is a must

  • Experience growing high performing engineering teams

  • Experience managing geographically distributed teams

  • Experience in a Linux based systems

  • Prior experience in any of the following languages: Java, C#, Ruby, Scala, Python

  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies and Test-Driven Development

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build effective networks and leverage them appropriately

  • Experienced in recruiting, building and managing high performing teams, including performance reviews, salary administration, and career development

Advantages

  • Experience with SRE model is a strong advantage

  • Proved technological experience with software-based infrastructure in the cloud, such as AWS, GCP, Azure, GCE, CoreOS

  • Experience with container orchestration systems Kubernetes, Docker

  • Experience with open source projects like Spinnaker, Kafka, Splunk, HBase and Machine Learning (ML) platforms

  • Experience using SQL and/or NoSQL datastores e.g. MongoDB, MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc

  • Experience with version control systems (Github, SVN, Perforce, etc.) and deployment & CI tools
