JOB SUMMARY: The primary role of the Director of Student Financial Planning is to develop, administer and maintain an effective financial aid system that is sensitive and responsive to a diverse student body, to the enrollment and revenue goals of New England Conservatory (NEC) within given budgetary guidelines, and in full compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations and policies. The Director interfaces frequently with faculty, staff, students, and prospective students and their families, and serves an important role in student retention and success. The Director is a core member of the Enrollment Management Team and reports to the Dean of Enrollment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Establish and administer all institutional financial aid and scholarship programs according to guidelines developed by the College in alignment with generally accepted financial aid practices. • Oversee communication of all financial aid awards to admitted and returning students. • In collaboration with the Dean of Enrollment, manage scholarship appeals process and maintain up-to-date reporting on scholarship appeals budget. • Award, track, and report on all federal financial aid programs. • Award, disburse, and report on state funding in accordance with regulations of Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Aid. • Using PowerFAIDS: create packaging algorithms; build Costs of Attendance budgets, letter templates, and selection sets; Run integration with PowerCAMPUS and batch-posting of relevant data elements between Technolutions Slate and PowerFaids. • Coordinate collection of FISAP data from Student Services and Finance offices, prepare and submit by annual due date. • Perform Gainful Employment Reporting; resolve Student Clearinghouse discrepancies with the Registrar's Office. • Maintain program participation agreements with numerous federal, state, and private agencies: Department of Education, Veterans Administration, PA Higher Education, MA Office of Student Financial Assistance, MA Department of Children and Families, and Departments of Rehab Services. • Manage, train, and motivate Financial Aid staff. • Responsible for the management of annual operational budgets for the Office of Student Financial Planning, Institutional Scholarship, and Campus Based Federal Student Aid. • Counsel prospective and current students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni regarding financial aid application process, loan repayment, and eligibility criteria for the various types of aid administered by NEC. • Develop consumer information about available financial aid and application forms. • Present sessions for prospective students and families during audition days, as well as during recruitment season (in-person and virtual). • Serve as a member of the following campus-wide committees: Academic Review Committee, Scholarship Committee, and others as assigned or deemed necessary. • Serve as primary point of contact for annual FSA audit and periodic MA state aid audit; coordinate collection of audit data from Finance, Registrar, Payroll, and Dean’s offices. • Maintain contact with professional organizations by attending conferences, workshops, and webinars (in-person and virtually), and participate in all relevant listservs for the profession to ensure continued professional growth and knowledge, as well as maintaining both federal and state regulatory compliance. • Work with the Dean of Enrollment to develop and implement enrollment management strategies that meet enrollment and net tuition revenue goals. • Use historical data and predictive modeling to understand, manage, and leverage institutional scholarship spending in meeting net tuition revenue goals. • Provide meaningful reports demonstrating financial aid usage and effectiveness to various NEC personnel and stakeholders. • QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of seven years of demonstrated professional experience in the Financial Aid field required; Master’s degree preferred. • Thorough understanding of Title IV federal regulations required. • Proficiency in using all Department of Education databases, including but not limited to; COD, CPS, NSLDS, FMS, EdConnect, FSA Partner Connect and other Federal agencies’ systems for the purposes of administering HEA/Title IV programs. • Knowledge of PowerFAIDS software preferred. • Knowledge of the unique environment of a music conservatory is preferred. • General knowledge of Technolutions Slate, SCT PowerCAMPUS, and ADP WorkforceNow helpful. • Strong computer skills including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, and internet. • Demonstrated ability to effectively recruit, train, motivate, and manage staff. • Exceptional organizational, oral and written communication, supervisory and analytical skills. • Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility that allow for quality collaboration with a wide variety of internal and external constituencies. • Commitment to NEC’s values of cultural equity and belonging.
