Verisk Director of Engineering in Boston, Massachusetts

Role Objectives * Consistently demonstrate strong leadership, listening, communication skills, and initiative * Make positive contributions to the team and receive positive feedback from team members * Participate in the definition and implementation of our software engineering culture * Consistently deliver high quality customer outcomes, on time and to budget * Continual improvements to team output and best practices and standards * Holding yourself to the highest of professional and ethical standards and demanding the same of co-workers Delivery * Responsible for continual improvement of software engineering processes and practices, aligned to the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) * Develop and deploy strategies for building a high-performance organisation * Continually evaluate and refine standards and processes to deliver sustained value * Ensure teams have appropriate technical competence and understand what great looks like * Create software engineering strategic and tactical roadmaps focused on business needs, efficiencies and revenue * Contribute to architecture and design efforts ensuring deliverables align to product and business needs Collaboration * Create a positive public presence of our organisation, and build and cultivate cross-departmental relationships * Able to effectively communicate concepts to stakeholders * Facilitate honest and open communications between disciplines * Create and maintain a culture of shared responsibility and continuous improvement Quality * Lead the way with software engineering best practices and standards * Continuously review and improve the processes and outputs of software engineering teams * Manage and mitigate risks, issues, and dependencies with project stakeholders, escalating where appropriate * Review and manage the quality of outcomes ensuring alignment with our technology blueprints Talent and Performance Management * Provide leadership to the Product team, including budget control, line management, recruitment, mentoring and personal development of the team * Actively manage and motivate excellent team performance, set credible goals, monitor performance, and identify and address performance gaps * Identify development needs and exploit opportunities for team and individual growth Wood Mackenzie are an industry-leading research and data analytics company that provides analysis and insight on the world’s natural resources with offices all around the globe. The team are working on a next generation, data analysis & visualization platform utilized by our customers to drive billion-dollar decisions. Your role will be responsible for the implementation of one of our core product offerings that delivers powerful analytic capabilities focused in the Natural Resources sector, specifically in the transition from fossil fuels to renewables. We will need you to ensure strong communication across teams, the very best engineering practices, and strong architectural foundations for the teams in your care.
