Responsible for providing overall leadership, management, and training of the Coding and Validation areas. The position requires ICD-10-CM/PCS subject matter expertise and education for Health Information Management and the Medical Center.

Job Description:

Provides oversight and direction to the Coders and Validators for the development/maintenance of coding Policy and procedure and coders' accuracy and productivity according to the Department's standards. Audits validation reviews of inpatient and outpatient medical records pre-billing to ensure accuracy of coding, regulatory compliance, and consistent data quality. Oversees and coordinates the Coding Apprenticeship Program. Prepares, coordinates, and delivers educational programs for Coders and Validators to support development, coding uniformity and accuracy. Oversees and coordinates efforts with Quality Review Coordinator to identify and resolve billing and revenue cycle issues pertaining to HIM. Oversees and coordinates efforts with the Coding and Reimbursement Coordinator to help appeal any DRG changes from third party payers. Coordinates efforts with the CDI Director to insure data quality and overall communication with the clinical staff. Formulates, communicates, and implements short and long range goals for the Coding and Validation areas. Provides education and assistance to Coders and Validators on questions related to documentation completeness, ICD-10-CM/PCS and HCPCS coding. Participates in hospital projects and administrative processes in order to represent HIM and requirements relative to compliance, revenue cycle, quality, and clinical documentation improvement. Reviews findings of third party DRG and coding audits. Coordinates communication of third party audit findings to the coding and validation staff members. Serves as a central resource for inpatient and outpatient coding and validation questions. And coordinates inpatient and outpatient coding forums.
