Opportunity Overview
Reporting to the Head, North America Training, the Director of Medical Education is responsible for the strategy, development, and implementation of training programs and processes in support of all North American (NA) medical training initiatives, to include both knowledge and skill based. This will include disease state knowledge, product/therapeutic landscape knowledge, compliance, and medical based training initiatives. Team responsibilities would include the MSL team, as well as all medical and science-based training for all other customer facing teams (TMs, PEMs, FAMs, ADMs, & NADs). This role would work closely with Field Medical, NA Medical, and Global Medical teams in these initiatives. Operational responsibilities would include the maintenance of a medical training TEAMs site, general project management interaction with vendors, and medical LMR submissions.
Responsibilities and Duties
Oversight and strategic alignment of all medical and scientific education initiatives for the MSL team as well as all other customer facing teams
Lead field medical education strategy for both the commercial and non-commercial customer facing teams
Conduct new customer facing new hire training
Establish goals and learning objectives to design appropriate and effective medical training curriculum, leveraging principles of adult learning, and incorporating all required regulatory and legal compliance requirements
Assist with the development or updates of training modules, as well as content within all other resources used in the field
Collaborate with NA Medical and customer facing team leadership in assessing medical training needs and developing resources and initiatives to address these needs
Lead the day-to-day operations necessary to schedule and coordinate with internal faculty, all customer facing team new hire and continued medical training
Act as liaison for external training vendors, managing the project plans and timelines through LMR
Manage the LMS process to ensure the availability of training resources to new hires and all established field facing team members
Assist with the development and implementation of all training initiatives for national meetings
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in health-related science and advanced degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) in a health-related science strongly preferred
5+ years of scientific/medical experience in biotech/pharma industry - Obesity, Endocrinology, Pediatrics, or Neurology experience preferred
2+ years’ experience in a training position
Prior experience working in a Field based medical role is a plus
Demonstrated ability to review and understand complex scientific and medical data from various clinical studies and other resources
Experience with LMS systems, vendor management and training operations preferred
Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum and apply training design principles
Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
Strong interpersonal, presentation, and facilitation skills
Proficiency with PowerPoint
High level of curiosity, adaptability and creativity to tailor learning to the audience
Ability to collaborate and build strong relationships across multiple stakeholders in the development and implementation of medical training initiatives
Requires 20 – 30% travel
