Penn Foster Director, Corporate Communications in Boston, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

The Director, Corporate Communications is responsible for keeping the team members of Penn Foster Carrus informed on issues that affect employees in the organization. This highly visible position will play a key role in the business by engaging employees and helping to motivate them to do their best for the company through careful coordination and delivery of mass messaging at multiple levels. You will work alongside and communicate to people at every level, with a focus on providing strategic input to leaders and helping to craft the right message. This may include keeping people informed of news and positive developments, in the loop on general business and performance, and equipped with the right information during periods of upheaval or crisis. This role will also coordinate external communications related to media response, crisis management, and public relations, representing the company in a way that is professional and consistent with our brand.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Partner directly with leaders on all communication content, including but not limited to: PowerPoint decks, speeches, website bios, organizational messages, business performance emails, companywide broadcasts, and employee engagement events

  • Focus and tailor the content of each communication for maximum audience appeal and impact, as well as consistency between internal and external messaging

  • Draft messages or scripts from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form, adjusting for consistency and clarity while retaining individual voice

  • Establish and execute on a strategic internal communications framework to enhance the employees’ awareness of and engagement with the company’s vision, strategy, and programs

  • Create and manage a master calendar to support the execution of the internal and external communications strategy

  • Establish a protocol for corporate brand tools, including new hire videos, recruitment tools, new business decks, and other employer branding or new business assets, etc.

  • Produce corporate leadership communications media, such as a CEO video or webcast

  • Handle the internal and external communication response to crisis situations which affect organizational perception and reputation

  • Act as point of contact for external communication agencies or media and respond to inquiries

  • Engage in public relations activities as needed

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

+ + Experience in a communications team, especially internal communication, for a large organization

  • Experience working across different functions and teams to get to a common solution or deliverable

  • Prior management of complex projects and advising senior leadership is desired

  • Ability to write for a variety of different audiences through various mediums

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to speak and write clearly

  • Demonstrated mastery of language, with the ability to create engaging content that aligns with our brand

  • Ability to develop and execute big picture, global internal communications strategies

  • Creativity and willingness to sometimes devise unique or inventive ways to get the job done

  • Experience in overseeing online platforms including intranet and social media preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Marketing is preferred
