About the Role

Wellington (WMC) currently manages $600 billion in fixed income assets on behalf of our clients worldwide. The Financial Reserves Management (FRM) team manages approximately $131 billion in assets for insurers across its book of business. We are seeking an experienced Director of FRM to join our Americas Institutional Group (AIG) Management Team within our Client Group Team. The AlG Management Team is responsible for ensuring Wellington has a world-class client facing individuals focused on serving and growing our institutional relationships in North America. Working alongside the Head of Americas Institutional Group, the Director of FRM will be responsible for leading and growing our FRM business, providing leadership and development to an existing team of managers and analysts charged with assisting clients and their consultants with long-term investment strategy and policy issues, evaluating portfolio risks and performance, developing policy guidelines, and all aspects of client reporting and communication. They will also be a thought partner on the broader FRM platform, working closely with colleagues across our product and investment teams. The Director of FRM will have dedicated client coverage, playing a hybrid business development and relationship management role, collaborating with clients across various market sectors, including insurance, banking, and corporate treasury relationships.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

The following essential skills are required for the role:

• Client-centric, insurance acumen and track record – The BDM will have deep insurance expertise and a demonstrated track record of successfully developing and managing a network of client relationships within the insurance channel. They will be highly commercial and have proven skills and abilities to generate new opportunities leading to new business revenues. They must have a comprehensive understanding of competitors, products, and key market trends. They will possess the ability to develop a strong, differentiated business strategy to maximize commercial output. The ideal candidate must exhibit in-depth knowledge of financial markets, and an ability to influence through a content-led, consultative sale approach.

• Superior collaboration and leadership skills – The successful candidate will thrive being part of a highly collaborative team. They will actively foster and embrace the benefits of overlapping lines of idea generation across team members, champion strategic initiatives, and inspire others to follow their vision. The BDM will build strong trusting relationships internally with other client facing personnel, product managers, portfolio managers, credit analysts.

• Growth mindset – The flexibility and openness to continue learning, evolving, and growing is required. The successful candidate will have a global perspective and creative approach for thinking about innovation and the next generation of the investment industry and evolution of credit markets.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional qualifications and characteristics include:

• Minimum 10 years of experience within the investment industry, with a background in insurance and deep knowledge of fixed income;

• Extensive leadership experience working with clients and related investment portfolios of institutional investors;

• Independence of thought, intellectual curiosity, and an entrepreneurial nature;

• Established credibility and commerciality with generating new business opportunities and managing relationships;

• Effective interpersonal and communication skills with ability to articulate and integrate numerous viewpoints and mobilize/influence across firm;

• Ability to navigate stressful situations with poise, focused on being a calming presence, active listener and pragmatic problem solver;

• Strong academic credentials: MBA and/or CFA/CAIA (or equivalent) preferred though not required

• Series 24 license preferred (not required at time of hire, but will be required eventually)

Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:

USD 100,000 - 225,000

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.

Base salary is only one component of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
