Boston Public Schools Digital Content Manager (SY22-23) in Boston, Massachusetts

Position Overview The Digital Content Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategy, development, and execution of organic social media for Boston Public Schools, the BPS Superintendent, its alumni community, and support district departments and schools as needed. This individual will help improve brand awareness, generate leads, and cultivate the District’s reputation. The Digital Content Manager will work closely with District teams within BPS to develop and maintain brand continuity across all social platforms. The incumbent will generate a yearly social media content calendar that complements the existing strategies across other content platforms (i.e. email, print, blog, etc.) to drive engagement and foster community among audiences on social media. This individual will work closely with the Chief of Communications, the Communications Director, Internal Communications Specialist, Web and Graphics Manager, Multimedia Producer, and Press and Deputy Secretaries to leverage various assets across appropriate social channels. The overall goal of this position is to utilize the latest cutting-edge social media platforms to help highlight the work of the District, the Superintendent, and our schools. Responsibilities: Digital Content Creation Collaborate with members of the Communications Department to brainstorm, create, and execute content that aligns with District goals. Manage scheduling and publishing of all content across channels, including strategic development and planning, community development and management, and assessment and adjustments to ensure alignment with divisional goals. Brainstorm new ways to leverage new and existing content across platforms, expanding the social presence across new or previously unexplored channels, and consistently growing audience engagement, interaction, and proactivity in staying current in social media trends and tactics Manage reporting for social campaigns, channel engagement, and the effectiveness of the social strategy to influence engagement for each audience. Update strategy on a channel-specific or overall brand level to reflect reported outcomes Be available and responsible for constituent engagement in response to families, including parents, families, and students, and assuring their inquiries are routed to the correct departments and subject matter experts. Attend occasionally staff in-person events with the Superintendent to deliver real-time updates via social media. Work with the translation services to translate social media content as needed. Alter approach to strategy to best align with various platforms, brands, audiences, and more as needed. Train senior leadership and department heads within the organization on how to utilize social media to help elevate their work on social media and raise awareness of District messages and programming. Take on other duties and responsibilities as identified as it relates to elevating social media and new trending practices. Develop District Wide policies regarding the use of social media. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field required. 5+ years of experience in content/social media marketing. Portfolio of previous work demonstrating both long- and short-form writing capabilities and previously executed social media marketing campaigns. Ability to think strategically about social media from both an overall-strategy and campaign-specific perspective. Experience leveraging platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and more. Ability to engage, inform, and inspire multiple audiences across varying brands and demographics. Ability to draft, facilitate various rounds of review for, and finalize content that is linguistically reflective of the audiences we serve, and alter writing style as needed. Occasionally staff in-person events with Superintendent Mary Skipper to deliver real-time updates via social media. Able to lean on translation services to translate social media content as needed. Alter approach to strategy to best align with various platforms, brands, audiences, and more as needed. Ability to juggle multiple high-stakes campaigns, projects, and schedules at once. Comfort with process documentation, scheduling, stakeholder management, and project management as needed. Exceptional creativity, innovation, and passion for social media work. Strong collaboration skills are required. Familiarity with social scheduling software (e.g., Sprout Social, HootSuite, Buffer, eClincher) Experience developing KPI dashboards to report on channel outcomes using tools like Google Analytics Understanding education-specific marketing is a plus. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, etc.) is a plus. Able to design graphics, record short inspirational videos, and learn of trending new tactics, strategies, and practices that can help continue to elevate the organization. An ability to distill complex policies and ideas into clear, compelling, conversational, rhetoric; Comfort working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple deliverables, and meeting tight deadlines; and, Take on other duties and responsibilities as identified as it relates to elevating social media and new trending practices.
