Boston Public Schools Development Manager (Managerial Tier C) (ESSER Funded Position) (Anticipated Vacancy) (SY23-24) in Boston, Massachusetts

This vacancy is the result of temporary funding through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). The duration of the funding means of this position is temporary and will end this school year. Hired candidates may be excessed or non-renewed from the position for the following school year. This position is an anticipated vacancy. It is expected to be vacant by 11/27/2023. However, the current incumbent has a right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation up until the day of the expected vacancy date. Your hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated, and you may start the year as a Long-Term Substitute if the position does not become vacant by the start of the school year. Title: Development Manager, Madison Park Reports to: Head of School General Description: Founded in 1647, Boston Public Schools (BPS) is the oldest public school district in the country. With approximately 57,000 students from over 114 different countries, nearly 9,000 employees (including 5,000 teachers) and an annual budget of $829 million, BPS is the largest school district in Massachusetts and one of the most diverse as well. BPS has been recognized as one of the top urban school districts in the United Students and was recently awarded the Broad Prize for Urban Education as the most improved urban school district in the nation. Under the direction of the Head of School, the Development Manager will be responsible for writing, editing and submitting grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies (state and federal). Responsibilities: Assist in the design of an annual grant development plan based on Madison Park’s strategic priorities and potential funding sources. Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals to private foundations, corporation and government sources and ensure the submission of all grant funded reports. Coordinate and facilitate internal and external working groups involved in proposal/program design; external groups may include representatives from schools, state and community agencies, employers and workforce development agencies. Write, edit, and submit grant proposals that include needs analysis, goals, objectives, activities, evaluations, strategies, timelines, budget and supporting data. Manage and assemble all materials for grant submissions including, but not limited to, proposal form concept papers, budgets, letters of support, and memorandum of agreement. Coordinate the timely execution of grant submissions. Design and implement a comprehensive fund development strategy that includes individual donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship – designed to secure revenue. Research and identify local or national foundations that focus funding in education and youth development. Analyze data to find new opportunities, ensure all activities drive efficiencies and maximize results. Perform other responsibilities as designated by the Head of School. Knowledge and Skills: Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals Strong editing skills Attention to detail Knowledge and familiarity with Boston Philanthropic sources Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors Knowledge and familiarity with the Boston Public Schools Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters preferred Ability to multi-task, work independently and thrive in fast-paced environment Extensive knowledge of relationships within the Boston area philanthropic community-especially focusing on education and youth development Ability to seek out and engage new and prospective donors and funding partners Terms: Managerial. Tier C. This position is subject to the City of Boston Residency ordinance. NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
