/Attention applicants: Do not apply for this position using the MassCareers website./ To apply, follow the link belowto the Attorney General’s Office direct application page. https://ago-ma.igreentree.com/CSS_External/CSSPage_Welcome.ASP// Deputy Division Chief Criminal Bureau Insurance & Unemployment Fraud Division The Attorney General’s Office is seeking a highly motivated attorney with extensive prosecutorial experience to join its management team as Deputy Division Chief of the Insurance & Unemployment Fraud Division within the Criminal Bureau. The Insurance & Unemployment Fraud Division investigates and prosecutes complex insurance and unemployment fraud cases, including violations of M.G.L. c. 152, M.G.L. c. 151A, and M.G.L. c. 175H, and other illegal activity, such as larceny, conspiracy, and money laundering. The Division is staffed by a group of experienced prosecutors and financial investigators who partner with Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Attorney General’s Office, and local, state, and federal investigative and enforcement agencies. Primary Duties: The Deputy Division Chief will assist the Division Chief with managing the division’s Assistant Attorneys General, investigators, and support staff located in Boston. Supervisory responsibilities will include overseeing the investigation and prosecution of cases, reviewing search warrants sought in connection with investigations, reviewing and editing internal memoranda, and mentoring division staff and assisting them with skills development. The Deputy Division Chief will also handle his or her caseload of primarily white-collar fraud-related matters, from investigation through sentencing. The work involves extensive collaboration with law enforcement agencies, grand jury investigations throughout the Commonwealth, complex motion practice, and frequent appearances before the Commonwealth’s District and Superior Courts for motions, pleas, and trials. The Insurance & Unemployment Fraud Division is a statewide division, and the position requires a candidate with a proven track record of versatility and adaptability. Division members work closely with the Massachusetts Insurance Fraud Bureau and the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance, as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, which demands a demonstrated history of successful partnerships with other law enforcement agencies. The Deputy Division Chief will be expected to communicate effectively with outside agencies and to maintain and foster those relationships. Applicants must possess the ability to handle a large and advanced caseload and have substantial litigation experience (7 years or more) in state criminal practice, including grand jury investigations, motion practice, and trials. A strong background in handling complex and long-term investigations and prosecution is preferred, with extensive experience and knowledge in reviewing search warrants and other legal memoranda. This position requires prior management and/or supervision experience and the ability to manage a diverse staff with varying levels of experience and responsibilities. Additionally, we seek a candidate who exercises good judgment, thinks strategically and practically, has strong legal research and writing skills, is a confident decision maker, and wants to lead a busy team that investigates and prosecutes a wide variety of criminal cases. A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required, as travel is necessary to various courts and offices throughout the Commonwealth.
