Meta Data Center Geo Capacity Lead Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts


Meta is seeking an experienced leader with a deep technical background to support one of our key functions within Meta’s Data Center Site Operations team. The global Capacity function is present in every one of our data centers and is responsible for ensuring Meta and our suite of applications always have the computing and production infrastructure to reliably meet the ever-growing demand of more than 3 billion people actively engaged with Meta and our suite of applications. The Capacity team works with peer organizations and regional teams that deliver services to Site Operations such as network operations, project management, facilities/maintenance management, logistics and supply chain operations in order to successfully deliver and maintain data center capacity to support ongoing business growth.The goal of the Geo Capacity Lead Engineer is to drive extensive, sustainable growth of our compute and storage capabilities through operational efficiencies and high impact, strategic initiatives. We seek a subject matter expert who can continue to drive innovation in this space, spanning people, processes, operations, cost, reliability, global scale, tooling, and automation. We seek a leader who can quickly absorb and understand the technical challenges of subject matter experts, local Site leadership, and Capacity teams, in a rapidly evolving technical environment. The successful candidate will gain alignment across these geographically distributed Data Center operations teams and partner organizations, driving initiatives that deliver the most impact by prioritizing resources and focus areas.

Required Skills:

Data Center Geo Capacity Lead Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Accountable for the planning, execution, and delivery of data center capacity within a geographical region, assuring the Capacity team meets or exceeds all operational targets

  2. Represent the needs and drive the priorities of the Capacity team within a geographical region in internal and broader infrastructure forums, as the technical expert in this space

  3. Build trusted relationships within the team, to understand the biggest challenges and opportunities, and to advocate effectively for the right initiatives

  4. With partner organizations, develop and drive a roadmap that scales Site Operations, delivering high impact advances in tooling, hardware, and workflow

  5. Work with Global teams to drive a singular operations strategy, goals, and priorities for the Capacity function within Site Operations

  6. Measure and benchmark the effectiveness of operational processes both internally and externally, setting performance targets and driving continuous improvements as needed

  7. Develop scaling strategies and plans, and be forward-thinking by understanding infrastructure growth, identifying scaling issues before they occur, and contributing to solutions

  8. Ensure robust, timely communications across a globally distributed team, and provide the team great visibility to progress and strategy

  9. Develop close partnerships with Program Management, Tooling, Hardware Design, Data Analytics, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Logistics and other teams to deliver superb operational results and manage the performance of external vendors

  10. Ensure strong communication and alignment between data center teams and central support teams in strategy, prioritization, and decision-making

  11. Mentor and identify growth opportunities for the broader Capacity team

  12. Up to 30% travel required

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Prioritization skills and proven experience leading tooling, systems, automation and process

  2. Working knowledge of data center infrastructure and operations

  3. BS, BA or Eng in technical field or commensurate experience in applicable technical domains

  4. Interpersonal, partnership and communications skills

  5. Organizational, technical, and leadership skills

  6. Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving skills

  7. Proven track record of success in a relevant Senior Technical, Operations or Engineering role
