Penn Foster Computer Science Instructor, Part Time in Boston, Massachusetts
The Computer Science Instructor is responsible for providing instructional support to ensure students meet the established learning objectives and supporting the growth and development of the courses to comply with industry standards and the needs of the community.
The Instructor will provide one-on-one instructional support to include responses to student’s inbound academic inquiries using distance education technologies, including phone, email, SMS text messaging, discussion boards, and portal messaging. The Instructor will offer office hours for tutoring via an appointment scheduling tool and provide substantive feedback on subjective exams (if applicable). The Instructor will support the creation of student resources including but not limited to webinars, videos, and learning resource materials. The instructor will provide live instruction via webinars.
The Instructor will utilize program learning outcomes to monitor student progress daily. The Instructor will conduct outreach using distance education technologies to provide academic advising and support to ensure student learning and successful completion of the program.
The instructor will have shared ownership of material in the Computer Science department and w ill participate in curriculum design, including development and revision, and in the development of any supplemental learning resources.
This is a remote position with limited travel and based out of Scranton, PA.
Essential Job Functions:
Review, evaluate, and suggest program curricula changes and practices to assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, requirements of business, industry, and higher education
Provide technically accurate academic support across various crafts to online students via phone, chat, e-mail, discussion board post, text, appointment scheduler, live and recorded webinars, and exam evaluations/feedback
Participate in course design, development, and revision
Create videos and online lectures and incorporate new technologies in courses
Create assessments that effectively measure the core program and course objectives
Review progression and course-level outcomes data and surveys to determine students' needs; provide data-driven interventions/outreach as needed
Provide academic support and advising to students to include but not limited to using distance education technologies, appointment scheduler, live and recorded webinars, and feedback and evaluations on exams and subjective assignments
Perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Must possess a Master’s degree in either Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a closely related discipline. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suit. Prior online teaching experience preferred.
Must have excellent computer skills. Ability to work independently, think critically, communicate effectively and efficiently, multitask, and enjoy being part of a team.
