State of Massachusetts Compliance Officer I in Boston, Massachusetts

DLS strives for a Massachusetts free of workplace hazards that cause injuries and illnesses, where wages are paid fairly and equitably, and the most vulnerable workers are protected. The Employment, Placement, and Staffing Agencies Program protects the rights of workers being placed by those agencies, and ensures that these agencies use fair, ethical, and legal business practices. The program also seeks to assist employment, placement, and staffing agencies to comply with their legal obligations under Massachusetts law by being a resource for them in helping to navigate the Employment Agency Law and the Temporary Workers Right to Know Law. * Conducts inspections of Employment, Placement, and Staffing agencies for compliance with the Employment Agency Law and the Temporary Workers Right to Know Law (TWRTK). * Maintains accurate records for inspections and keeps database and files up to date. * Extensive travel within MA, almost exclusively within Boston and points south including Cape Cod, is required. Must have personal vehicle. * Reviews complaints received from the public, other state or federal agencies concerning alleged violations of laws or regulations and determines the appropriate action to be taken. Refers cases to the Council on the Underground Economy (CUE) when violations outside of DLS regulations are found. * Works with other state and federal agencies and CUE on joint investigations. * Proactively conducts research to identify agencies operating without a license or registration. * Ability to prepare and write general reports including non-compliance letters, written warnings, and civil citations to agencies with violations to require corrective action and tracks to ensure agency’s response. * Testifies and presents evidence at enforcement hearings on occasion. * Ability to understand, explain, and apply the laws and regulations of the Employment, Placement and Staffing Agency Program. * Responds promptly to requests and inquiries from the public, other investigators, and office staff. * Works independently and reliably and communicates effectively in oral expression and in writing. Is effective in time management and eager in reaching monthly/annual objectives. * Maintains liaison with other Compliance Officers and reports to Supervisor within program on a regular basis. * Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in investigatory, law enforcement or regulatory administration work, or (B) and equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
