Merck Cloud Web Platform Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

The Cloud Computing team develops the strategy and works with teams worldwide to govern, grow, and operate Cloud solutions. Our team embraces the regulatory challenges of our industry and drives innovative, secure, and compliant use of Cloud Service Providers. We collaborate closely with internal and external partners worldwide to mature our ability to utilize Cloud Service Providers. Our team also impacts application development agility worldwide via our cloud-based application hosting Platform as a Service (PaaS).

The Cloud Web Platform Engineer will advance our team’s web platform offerings as part of the engineering team.

Primary job responsibilities include:

  • Collaborates with Product Manager of global Cloud Foundry PaaS platform and Web Redirect Service.

  • Contributes to architecture, design, and engineering of global Cloud Foundry Platform and Web Redirect Service.

  • Defines best practices and guidelines for the Cloud Foundry platform, acting as a subject matter expert.

  • Contributes to identifying capability gaps in capabilities and designing solutions to address.

  • Executes on opportunities to automate and simplify maintenance and lifecycle of platform services.

  • Maintains current industry knowledge of web platform concepts, best practices, and technologies.

  • Prioritizes workloads, commitments, and scheduled timelines.

  • Frequent interaction with project leaders and delivery teams to onboard new workloads to platform services.

  • Documents, reviews and ensures that all System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and company policy standards are met.

  • Provide a point of escalation for the managed support staff.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • BSc Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, or equivalent experience.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in IT field.

  • Hands‐on experience with Cloud Service Providers (e.g. AWS) IaaS and networking such as VPC, Subnets, Security Groups, etc.

  • Understanding of web and network protocols such as HTTP/S, JSON, TCP/IP, DNS.

  • Linux Operations or System Administration experience.

  • Knowledge of scripting language such as Python or Unix shell scripts.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a matrixed and highly concurrent environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute on a project or experiment, including milestones andendpoints.

  • Experience working as part a global, diverse team.

  • Experience implementing and/or operating a Cloud Foundry or similar PaaS (e.g. Elastic Beanstalk,Heroku).

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services such as VPC, EC2, ELB, S3, etc.

  • Relevant AWS Certification.

  • Experience with infrastructure, network, database, or security troubleshooting and remediation.

  • Experience delivering products and features using Agile/Scrum methodologies in a DevOps environment.

  • Experience with DevOps tools such as git, Jira, Jenkins, etc.
