Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston Clinical Supervisor in Boston, Massachusetts

The Clinical Supervisor role requires a strong clinical background, excellent leadership and communication skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.  The Supervisor will oversee all aspects of clinical operations, including staff training and development, efficient patient flow, and quality assurance.

The Clinical Supervisor will be responsible for upholding OCB values of outstanding patient care, Unity, Ethics & Integrity, Fairness, Operational Excellence, and Fiscal Responsibility. This position is full time Monday through Friday and is onsite.

Personnel Management

  • Project a positive and professional attitude to create a welcoming and supportive environment for both patients and staff.

  • Assists with development and implementation of training programs and processes to improve operational efficiency, as well as assists in training and mentoring of assigned technical personnel.

  • Organizes and leads brief, daily huddle meetings with the clinical staff to collaboratively plan patient care, address any immediate concerns, and ensure a smooth and efficient start to each clinic day.

  • Completes annual skill evaluations and annual performance reviews.

  • Responsible for sick calls and assists in the coordination of staff schedules and schedule changes.

  • Assists in the management of room allocations and physician long-term rotation changes to ensure the highest utilization and efficiency of OCB staff and physical resources.

  • Consults with Regional Clinical Manager on problems and interpretation of policies to ensure patient and practice needs are met.

  • Collaborate effectively with OCB leadership to achieve organizational goals and ensure seamless cross-functional operations.

    Clinical Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform patient workups and diagnostic testing as necessary by most senior level clinical staff on an as needed basis to maintain an efficient running clinic.

  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks to ensure smooth workflows and outstanding patient experience.

  • Proactively addresses patient needs, communicating delays in clinic, analyzing patient survey feedback, and developing strategies for continuous improvement in patient experience.

  • Ensure adherence to all clinical protocols and best practices.

  • Responsible for managing quality control including but not limited to medical waste management, assures all equipment testing calibration is carried out as required per policy, maintains proper oversight of injectable inventory.

  • Ordering all clinical supplies and managing inventory of drugs, equipment, and supplies in assigned offices.

  • Working in conjunction with the Front Office on timely communication of delays, cancellations, availability.

  • Assist with the implementation of new technologies and procedures.

  • Functions in a service role for the clinical team by supporting ophthalmologists and optometrists to meet their clinical needs in a positive and timely manner.

  • Using discretion and working independently.

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient health information, organizational metrics, and staff related data.

    Essential skills and Abilities:

  • Strong clinical knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and diseases.

  • Excellent organizational skills with a proven ability to effectively multitask.

  • A strong understanding of operational issues, departmental goals, and how to improve patient flow.

  • Ability to conduct full ophthalmic workups including diagnostic testing as necessary.

  • Proven ability to work well in a leadership capacity.

  • Empathetic personality with concern for patient and staff needs.

  • Maintains a positive professional demeanor.

  • Demonstrated computer literacy.

    Education and Experience:

  • Certified as Ophthalmic Assistant COA, Technician COT, or Medical Technologist COMT.

  • Prior supervision or clinical lead of practice operations in ophthalmology practice preferred.

  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of all aspects of ophthalmic patient care through practical application.

  • Demonstrated skills in motivating clinical staff.

  • Lean Six Sigma experience a plus.

  • Knowledge of Epic preferred.

  • College degree preferred.
