Roles and Responsibilities:

As an Intermediate Systems Integration Analyst for MITRE’s Center for Government Effectiveness and Modernization (CGEM) P851 Veterans Affairs Health Systems and Strategy Department, you will provide strategic and operational support, analysis, and subject matter expertise in the areas of systems integration, operational effectiveness, data analytics, and strategic innovation.

The ideal candidate will support and/or lead multi-disciplinary teams with a variety of health and non-health related backgrounds to develop solutions that serve the federal governments’ efforts to provide the best healthcare to Veterans and modernize their systems, processes, workflows, data, and technology infrastructure. Successful candidates will ensure that these multi-disciplinary teams consider the unique aspects of systems integration in their problem-solving activities. Ideal candidates will also have experience in VA health administration, central office operations or integrated analytics, and will apply evidenced-based systems thinking and healthcare expertise to transform VA operations and improve Veteran access to care and services.

  • Work within a team to support VA and Veterans Health Administration (VHA) staff, providing strategic and operational support and subject matter expertise based on an understanding of government challenges and priorities, evaluate possible solutions and conduct insightful, actionable analyses.

  • Develop evidence-based system integration methodologies and recommendations to build technical products and development support for VA sponsors.

  • Conduct business process assessment, environmental scans, analysis of alternatives, and system assessments, and develop predictive models or conduct analysis to identify opportunities for system and/or process improvements.

  • Collaborate with the cross-Division team members and MITRE Labs to build integrated teams which leverage MITRE-wide capabilities and successfully apply these capabilities to help achieve sponsor and mission outcomes.

  • Support/advise VA/VHA leadership and stakeholders as they seek to modernize their clinical and health data and technology infrastructure, to improve timeliness, and quality of health care services provided to Veterans.

  • Support/lead multi-disciplinary teams with a variety of health and non-health related backgrounds to develop solutions that serve VA/VHA’s efforts to modernize their healthcare operations and technology infrastructure.

  • Work within a team to draft, review, and/or manage the development of technical products, such as research papers, briefing papers/reports, environmental scans and recommendations that will provide value and address our government sponsor’s knowledge gaps and challenges.

  • Work with a team to develop reports and presentations for both lay and clinical audiences that effectively communicate findings and promote recommendations to improve efficacy.

  • Support multi-site, multi-agency, and multi-stakeholder initiatives to help advance key national health, innovation, and transformation objectives.

  • Interact with senior leaders of federal healthcare agencies, think creatively, and guide approaches to solutions based on a clinical understanding of challenges the government faces.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g., systems engineering, systems design/thinking, public administration, or a related field), with at least two years of relevant experience in data/systems integration, operational integration, system/process improvements, etc.

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet certain eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

  • Must be a US citizen and capable of obtaining and maintaining VA suitability.

  • Familiarity with systems integration development.

  • Knowledge of and experience with systems, processes, workflows and operations, and methods to integrate and improve them.

  • Ability to interpret data analysis into clinically relevant information and knowledge to inform decision-making and recommendations.

  • Experience working in a team to accomplish a high-priority goal.

  • Ability to contribute to the development of a technical deliverable, report, white paper, etc.; providing documentation of analyses, information preparation, project management support, deliverable preparation (reports, presentations).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent in relevant field (e.g., systems engineering, systems design/thinking, public administration, or a related field), with at least two years of relevant experience in applying systems integration approaches to real world problems.

  • Experience working for VA Central Office or VHA.

  • Understanding of Veteran’s healthcare journey and associated challenges.

  • Understanding and application of change management, organizational design, and user centered design principles, preferably applied to data system or EHR implementations.

  • Experience applying business, project management, consulting tools and principles; advisory or consulting experience strongly preferred.

  • Led the development of a technical deliverable, team, and/or group.

  • Experience working with and interpreting clinical and/or health related data sets.
