MITRE’s National Security New Professionals Accelerator Program ( https://careers.mitre.org/us/en/national-security-accelerator-program (https://sites.mitre.org/newprofessionals/) ) is seeking highly motivated, early career candidates passionate about solving problems for a safer world. Currently hiring in the following locations: McLean, VA; Bedford, MA; Ford Island, HI; Los Angeles, CA; San Antonio, TX.

This program will provide unique work opportunities, onboarding, and mentoring to build your skills as a future leader. You will accelerate your career while preparing for impactful, rewarding work at MITRE. Successful candidates will gain exposure and experience in topics of common interest to the entire national security community. You will interact with a diverse group of program peers, MITRE national security leaders, and staff solving real-world problems. Over the course of this structured six-month program, you will hone your skills and develop strong professional networks in the national security sector and across our Innovation Centers, helping solve critical national challenges. Before transitioning to MITRE’s permanent national security or technical staff, you will benefit from the following program pillars:

  2. Focused mentoring with MITRE national security leaders and experts in your field

  3. An in-depth rotational work program

    Job Responsibilities:

Working alongside MITRE mission specialists and engineers, you will be supporting national security sponsors while helping with all aspects of the systems engineering lifecycle, including CONOPs development, requirements engineering, planning, integration, and testing to design, develop, and implement solutions and technologies to address the systems engineering challenges of our government sponsors. You will be exposed to expertise, innovation, and thought leadership that accelerates the application of systems engineering to government problems, promotes their mission, and enables operational success. You will learn about MITRE sponsor missions and apply your technical knowledge and skills to problem-solving and innovation. At the culmination of the National Security Accelerator Program, you will become part of MITRE’s National Security team focused on sponsor missions with a strong technical background enabling you to be a future leader in the company.

From concept development and decomposition of requirements to transition and operations in the field, you will learn to apply systems engineering expertise, innovate concepts, and develop technology solutions to address every facet of our sponsor’s systems engineering challenges to include:

  • Concept Development

  • Requirement Engineering

  • Model based

  • System Architecture

  • System Design & Development

  • Transition Operation & Maintenance

  • Test & Evaluation

  • System Integration

    What are some examples of the projects that I might work on?

  • Solving international security problems

  • Developing digital transformation solutions

  • Enabling operations through data modeling and system architectures

  • Modeling fielded configurations and/or problem sets

  • Developing proof-of-concept models for interfaces to architectures

  • Designing complex and efficient process systems

  • Performing requirements management, systems analysis, systems design, systems integration, and test

  • Performing trade studies and requirements verification

    What does an ideal MITRE New Professional Systems Engineer bring to the position?

  • Hands-on experience gained from previous work experience or relevant intern/co-op work

  • Applied knowledge of systems engineering principles, tools, and devices

  • Proficiency in one or more systems engineering tools like Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, Vitech Core or ability to leverage UML, SysML, etc.

  • Experience in setting, installing, testing, and maintaining operating systems, application software and system management tools

  • Interdisciplinary background with at least of one of those disciplines being systems engineering, computer engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, information systems, or a related technical field

  • Evidence of being a life-long learner, with a passion for the field

  • High-level desire to help our nation solve critical problems

    Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Science and 2 years of related experience in systems engineering, computer engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, information systems, or a related technical field or an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) with relevant experience who can immediately contribute.

  • A bility to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance

  • Strong background in systems development and systems engineering (SE) including but not limited to: assessing systems, determining problems, providing solutions to issues, designing systems, upgrading systems, maintaining systems and brainstorming possible improvements

  • Hands-on skills with at least one systems engineering tool like Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, Vitech Core or ability to leverage UML, SysML, etc.

  • Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret/SCI with polygraph clearance

  • BS and 5 years of related experience; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step

  • Experience working projects related to national security for one or more government agencies

  • Interdisciplinary background with evidence of continual learning

  • Experience with system development methodologies

  • Experience with developing solutions for both software and hardware, while also being able to support users and troubleshoot

  • Experience with problem-solving, analysis, and communication

  • Experience providing solutions for systems, maintaining documentation for system configuration, and performing investment analysis on systems

  • Experience with software specification, documentation, and quality assurance

  • Experience developing and performing key systems engineering processes such as Configuration, Risk, Requirements, or Technical Data Management

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$89,000 - $111,500 - $134,000 Annual
