MITRE’s Enterprise Computing, Information, and Security Center is seeking an experienced Operations Engineer with a background in implementing, managing and supporting backup infrastructure. This position is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned candidate seeking to be part of a collaborative team that leverages automation and cloud technologies to deliver infrastructure services for the organization. The ideal candidate will be able to lead and/or contribute to various high priority technical projects within the Corporate roadmap relating to enterprise backups and disaster recovery planning.
Lead and/or contribute to projects for various high priority technical efforts within the Corporate Roadmap with an eye towards automation, recoverability, storage optimization and cloud migration opportunities for MITRE’s enterprise backups
Provide innovative ideas and lead technical projects that enable MITRE to enhance, expand, automate and/or optimize the backup systems and services supported by the Operations team
System administration and optimization of Corporate backup platforms
Contribute to MITRE’s Disaster Recovery planning, testing and documentation program
Within defined SLAs, provide troubleshooting support for issues within the teams’ supported areas
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
A minimum clearance level of Secret is required with the possibility of a Top Secret clearance being required based on future project/team needs.
This position is focused on the advancement and sustainment of MITRE’s backup architecture and systems. Attention to detail and follow through on assignments is critical. As a senior staff member, the candidate needs to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Lead or support critical projects relating to backups to ensure best outcomes occur
Management of MITRE’s backup systems and associated peripherals – to include, but not limited to:
Scripting and Automation of routine tasks
Augmenting and evolving the backup environment for optimal DR recovery
Desktop backup integration and collaborative support with desktop engineering team
Reporting and analysis of key metrics
Administration of backup software, schedules and systems
Collaboration with key customers of the service
Triage and repair of issues
Provide and maintain architectural and procedural documentation of the environment
Cross train others on staff as needed to bring depth to the team’s support capabilities
Hands on and in-depth experience with management of backup software using distributed disk based storage – CommVault experience is a major plus, but related experience with other backup products such as Veeam or NetBackup will be considered as well
Experience with disaster recovery planning, documentation and testing
Some experience or education focused on Cloud Migration strategies – AWS and/or Azure experience is a plus
Understanding of DevOps/Agile philosophy and a mindset to leverage it whenever possible
Extensive experience with Microsoft Server and/or RedHat Linux administration
Comfort with collection and analysis of key metrics within supported services – provide reports and propose/take action to proactively address potential issues
Strong verbal and written communication skills and a willingness to learn from and teach others
Ability to lead small to mid-size efforts using project management skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Versatility and flexibility to be able to work across multiple efforts in a dynamic work program
Demonstrate a collaborative mindset with an ability to work/negotiate across diverse teams and staff levels
Must be able to obtain a Secret level of government clearance with the possibility of obtaining a top secret clearance in the future - must also demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Participation in an on-call rotation
