Department Summary:

The Cyber Defense – Installation to Edge, department, is currently seeking a Senior DevSeOps Platform Engineer with strong background using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Configuration as Code (CaC) and Kubernetes to work on innovative advanced approaches and technologies to solve our sponsors' most critical problems. In addition, the successfully candidate will have to work through challenging problems related to the underlying infrastructure, such as cloud and hyperconverged technologies, Zero Trust Software Defined Perimeter, Identity, Credential, Access, Management (ICAM), virtualization (VMware, Promina, etc.) to develop automated deployment of capabilities using IaC/CaC. Furthermore, the candidate, while working with a Team, will need to also work independently to develop solutions. In addition, you will have an opportunity to work across multiple sponsors and projects to transition solutions, requirements, and concepts of employments, on a wide variety of challenging software engineering and information technology applications, protypes, military exercises, and systems.

Our department views Agile methodologies as a means to enable continuously deployment of software defined mission capabilities to from installation to the Tactical Edge to address operational challenges.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Integrate software solutions with hardware systems to optimize system performance and functionality

  • Craft comprehensive solutions as a full stack developer involving frontend and backend applications and services

  • Evaluate critical systems, identifying process improvements, act as a DevSecOps Change Agent, and leverage DevSecOps practices for program and product improvement

  • Formulate & deliver actionable recommendations to apply Agile practices for real time improvement

  • Work as an individual contributor and/or be part of a team developing and delivering both prototype and production software

  • Build, administer and manage processes that introduce DevSecOps concepts of testing, prototyping, security, automation, etc.

  • Treat all challenges as opportunities to learn, excel and deliver state of the art solutions to solve nation’s problems

  • Apply expertise in IT infrastructure and cloud computing to automate and facilitate the integration, delivery, and deployment of deliverables

  • Execute on individual tasking that contributes to the success of larger systems in an environment that encourages autonomy

  • Effectively communicate ideas, findings, and progress – both verbal and written - to internal stakeholders, government sponsors, and trusted partners

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related educate and work experience

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance

  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation or Crossplane, as well as Configuration as Code (CaC) practices using tools such as Ansible, Puppet and Chef

  • Experience with application containers, runtimes, and automation (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, IaC, PaC, CaC, etc.)

  • Experience in Agile software development and tools (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, Confluence, Jira)

  • Experience with automated testing, DevSecOps methodologies and tools (e.g., Cypress, Fortify Gitlab, Jenkins, Maven, SonarQube)

  • Fluency in one or more languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, C#)

  • Experience with continuous software integration and deployment (CI/CD)

  • Understanding of software processes and is fully responsible for deliverables - including definition, completion, and technical quality

  • In addition, candidate is capable of defining and leading project tasks

  • Solid written and verbal communications skills to effectively brief and communicate complex concepts and technologies

  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering

  • Active SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance

  • Familiarity with enterprise-level models of agile development (e.g., Scaled Agile Framework)

  • Experience with Commercial cloud operations and administration (e.g., AWS, Azure)

  • Experience with Zero Trust reference architectures, concepts and application (e.g. AppGate, network micro-segmentation)

  • DoD cyber security practices (SRGs, STIGs, RMF)

  • Experience in leading teams with release, sprint planning, and backlog management using agile tools (e.g., VersionOne, JIRA)
