Department Summary:

The N114 Resilient Warfighter Space Services Department is committed to ensuring resilient space-based capabilities to enable successful joint warfighting across all domains. We achieve mission success by leveraging our operational understanding, technical expertise, comprehensive view of the technology landscape, and cross-enterprise connectivity. Our team conducts cutting-edge technical research and prototype development, providing senior government leaders with data-driven insights to advance space-based capabilities. Our diverse portfolio spans multiple missions, with a focus on resilient Satellite Communications (SatCom) and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT). As a major contributor to the Space Warfighting Division, the N114 department enables resilient space-based solutions that enhance the effectiveness of joint warfighters in and across all domains.

The N114 Department is seeking a project leader for the Space Systems Command (SSC) Military SatCom (MilComm) https://info.mitre.org/people/91378/techstatureproject, which is set to begin in FY25 after its separation from the SSC MilComm and PNT (CG) work package. This critical role requires a candidate who will serve as the primary MITRE focal point for government leadership, overseeing a portfolio of Tactical, Strategic, and Narrowband MilComm work programs. The project’s work aligns with the MITRE Air & Space Force Center's resilient communications common capabilities and will significantly contribute to the Center's strategy.

Roles & Responsibilities:

You will act as a project leader in a collaborative team environment to provide data-driven recommendations for key systems engineering activities related to the SSC/CG MilComm mission. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse set of technical skills, including systems engineering, modeling & simulation, prototyping, and satellite communication.

In this role, the project leader will be responsible for:

  • Sponsor Engagement – Routinely engage with sponsor senior material leaders, material leaders, and other sponsor personnel to develop a deep understanding of their mission challenges. Provide strategic and technical leadership as a trusted advisor, while growing and strengthening the sponsor relationship. Enhance MITRE’s role in proactively shaping programs to achieve operational mission objectives.

  • Project Leadership – Develop and define project outcomes in alignment with NSEC Space Warfighting Cross Cutting Priority outcome. Align project work to identify and address the toughest current and future challenges sponsors face, supporting enterprise and corporate-level initiatives.

  • Project Administration – Utilize clarity, financial reporting tools, project pages, meeting coordination, status reports, future MITRE support requests, project work statements, and other resources to achieve project goals and ensure delivery.

  • Product Quality Control – Conduct in-progress task and analysis reviews, peer reviews, and technical quality reviews with chief engineers to ensure the delivery of high-quality MITRE products

  • Collaboration - Foster a project team environment that develops a robust network of MITRE and other professional connections. Engage and collaborate with engineers, planners, and subject matter experts. Leverage MITRE technical expertise from the Labs, capabilities from the MITRE Platforms, and transitioned R&D from the MIP into project delivery.

  • Staff Leadership – Work with department resource managers to develop the team and grow staff through hiring and onboarding.

  • Culture Development – Foster and demonstrate a strong and positive culture built upon MITRE’s cultural attributes of speed, risk-taking, adaptability, collaboration, grace, and respect. Facilitate a culture of diversity and inclusion aligned with the Air and Space Force Center strategy.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. Active DoD Top Secret Clearance (TS) with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.

  • Demonstrated technical depth in the field of systems engineering in one or more of the following mission areas: satellite communications, space data transport, space command and control, operational assessments, prototyping, and experimentation.

  • Experience in working acquisition programs in one or more of the following mission areas: Tactical, Strategic, and Narrowband Military Communications.

  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to build collaboration across organizational units.

  • Demonstrated experience leading geographically separated teams with diverse background and skills

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain trusted relationships with Government Sponsors.

  • Demonstrated ability to work shape within a team to drive technical impact

  • Ability to effectively communicate highly technical and conceptual ideas to MITRE and Sponsor senior leaders.

  • Demonstrated experience as a technical or program manager, experience on acquisition programs

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a related STEM field, and a minimum of 10 years of related experience or M.S. degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience.

  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance

  • Expert in working acquisition programs in one or more of the following mission areas: Tactical, Strategic, and Narrowband Military Communications.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in the field of systems engineering in one or more of the following mission areas: satellite communications, space data transport, space command and control, operational assessments, prototyping and experimentation.

  • Demonstrated strategic space System-of-Systems thought leader

  • Significant experience as a technical or program manager, experience on acquisition programs

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$167,500 - $209,500 - $251,500 Annual
