Department Summary:

The Airborne Battle Management and Command and Control (ABMC2) department includes an energetic and diverse team of engineers and global flight operations domain analysts committed to assisting our sponsors with their most critical mission problems. In the C2 area, we are assisting our U.S. and foreign partners on major upgrades to enhance effectiveness of their airborne platforms in a contested environment to gain and retain air superiority. We pride ourselves in providing timely engineering recommendations to our sponsors based in analytics. Through applying a breadth of skills, we assist our sponsors in mission requirements analysis, technology tradeoffs, and experimentation

Roles & Responsibilities:

We are seeking a dynamic and forward thinking Associate Project Leader to assist leading the current International Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) and Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) projects for our coalition partners. The International AWACS and AEW&C projects assist our partners with maintaining effectiveness of the platforms in the face of evolving threats. The MITRE role is to provide proactive leadership and guidance from a firm analytical basis on the modernization efforts essential to our coalition partners goals of effective ABMC2 and maintaining interoperability with the United States. The role requires strong collaboration with the sponsors, mission partners and other related stakeholders, to include other MITRE projects, FFRDC/UARC peers, and industry. In addition to assisting the Project Leader in leading the project through work planning, staffing, and execution, the ideal candidate will also be able to provide technical oversight and identify and pursue new opportunities for high-impact work by the project team. The multi-year projects total approximately 16 FTE across 6 partners currently with many more interested in obtaining a similar capability to the United States Air Force E-7 Wedgetail that is being rapidly prototyped.

Qualified candidates will have significant experience in the Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) operational domain, and military aircraft development and modernization programs, with expertise in one or more of the following technical areas: airborne sensor systems; voice, datalink, and Internet Prototcol communications systems; multi-source integration and ABMC2 software systems; and aircraft system of systems integration. Experience with Digital Engineering/Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Software Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps), and Rapid Prototyping acquisitions also is highly desired. This is a Lead level position and the primary sponsor is located in Bedford at Hanscom AFB.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Proactive self-starter with strong analytical, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Familiarity with ABMC2 and/or aircraft modernization programs

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline

  • 7+ years of experience with ABMC2, aircraft modernization programs, and the technical areas identified above

  • A vision of for growing MITRE’s impact in the ABMC2 domain

  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary technical teams

  • Prior project or task leader experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability to formulate project level and department-level goals, and the persistence to execute until those goals are achieved

  • Desire to develop and mentor staff

  • Demonstrated experience enabling and ensuring technical quality of deliverable products

  • Familiarity with the military air combat domain, airborne tactical systems, global flight operations, platform/system integration and system of system/enterprise integration

  • Experience with development of Cameo and DOORS requirements models or comparable digital engineering tools and methodologies

  • Familiarity with foreign military sales
