Thermo Fisher Scientific Director, Purification R&D in Bedford, Massachusetts
Our Purification R&D Director leads all aspects of US-based development of novel tools for purification of therapeutic biomolecules. In this position you will lead a technical team of 20 to 25 R&D professionals in Bedford (MA) and Carlsbad (CA). You will be responsible for team and portfolio evolution, as you lead commercialization of purification products that increase efficiency of customer processes. Value generation and strategic contributions are to be driven by internal and external customer interactions that guide new product roadmaps. As team coach you will develop a strong culture for innovation, product development, learning and mentorship to achieve business goals, as you help colleagues meet career aspirations.
What will you do?
Own all aspects of team, culture, process, metrics, commitments and brings new approaches designed to efficiently develop and commercialize new purification tools and platforms
Build a strong culture for innovation of novel purification products that serve unmet customer needs
Serve as a subject matter expert in a fast-paced matrixed environment, willing to act, influence others without direct authority; take calculated risks, learn from setbacks to refine approaches and drive team success.
Through collaboration with internal and customer-facing colleague lead translation of customer requirements into differentiated new products and downstream workflow solutions.
Actively partner with colleagues to advance intellectual property portfolios and provide background that leads to positive FTO opinions
Align single and multi-year strategic plans with R&D investment
Perform technology scouting and assessments to identify new approaches that solve customer needs
Mentor team and perform administrative functions such as resource planning, enforcing policies, resolving issues, employee performance reviews, adherence to budgets, recruitment, mentoring, talent engagement and retention.
How will you get here?
Through demonstration of a track record of successful commercialization of new biopurification products
Demonstration of ownership, urgency, independence, team empowerment and leadership
Deep understanding of needs of biopharma customers
Minimum of 10 to 15 years of development of purification products that improve efficiency of downstream bioprocesses.
Minimum 10 years of direct people leadership experience.
Industrial downstream process development and implementation is preferred.
