Department Summary:

The MITRE Systems Security Engineering department seeks an experienced Principal Cybersecurity or Systems Engineer specializing in engineering trustworthy secure solutions to serve as a Group Leader (GL). Experience in one or more of the following is required: systems security engineering; cybersecurity operations; security analysis; D3FEND; loss driven systems engineering.

The candidate needs to have strong servant leader, team leadership skills. The successful candidate will be a key part of the department leadership team providing thought leadership within the department and division. This position will be responsible for serving as a direct supervisor for 8 to 11 staff members with a diverse skill base, with a diverse sponsor set, and across a geographically broad set of locations. The candidate will work closely with department members in a collaborative working environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, results-oriented professional. Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, and retaining world class talent to engineer secure solutions.

  • Recruiting, hiring, and developing interns and early career employees.

  • Develop and cultivate trust across the MPS and MNS divisions leadership.

  • Key contributor to work shaping and quality assurance on staff products and deliverables.

  • Find and develop meaningful work opportunities for group members.

  • Objectively evaluate staff performance on at least an annual basis.

  • Mentor and advocate tech staff seeking promotion and career growth.

  • Lead the group in support of department and division goals, focusing on growing work, growing teams, and growing the organization.

  • Set the standard for servant leadership, demonstrating exemplary traits for improving morale and improving the work climate.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 7 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 4 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Excellent writing and communications skills

  • Active Department of Defense Top Secret clearance

  • Familiarity with emerging assurance technologies

  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-160 Volume 1 Revision 1

  • Have knowledge of assurance cases and assurance practices

  • Have knowledge of effects-based security engineering techniques and analyses: e.g., loss driven analysis, System Theoretic Process Analysis

  • Demonstrated servant leadership

  • Demonstrated track record of exemplifying MITRE core values:speed, adaptability, collaboration, and grace & respect

  • Familiar with MITRE staff management tools

  • Familiar with managing projects or programs and MITRE project management tools

  • Track record in coaching, teaching, and mentoring early career data professionals

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with prior MITRE leadership experience: TL, PL, or GL.

  • 12+ years of experience in engineering DoD weapon systems.

  • Experience with digital engineering

  • Experience creating a vision, gaining consensus, establishing a plan, and motivating team members towards productive outcomes.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$168,500 - $210,500 - $252,500 Annual
