Department Summary:

The Cyber Infrastructure Protection Innovation Center (L540) is seeking a Capability Area Lead (CAL) for the Critical Infrastructure Modeling and Simulation capability area. The CAL, in collaboration with the Modeling, Intelligence, and Sim for Critical Infrastructure Department Manager, is responsible for developing and executing MITRE’s strategy for the advancement of our work in Modeling and Simulation for critical infrastructure. This role requires close collaboration with L540 leadership, other CALs, staff across the company working in critical infrastructure, relevant Innovation Area Leads, and project leadership supporting sponsor opportunities related to the capability area. The role of Capability Area Lead is strongly aligned to MITRE’s Good Growth strategy.

Job Description:

Growing Our Work – CALs are MITRE’s focal point for a technical capability area and are called upon to represent MITRE’s work in the capability area to sponsors, vendors, and the larger critical infrastructure community. CALs will have a vision for how MITRE’s work in the capability area should grow and advance. CALs will collaborate with Project Leads and the MIP to move the capability area forward. CALs will own and direct division-level research in their capability area through the approval and oversight of J-Funds research tasks.

Grow our People – CALs are uniquely positioned to be aware of project and training opportunities that align to their capability areas. In partnership with the L542 Department Manager, CALs can help staff find opportunities for personal growth through professional development/training, or project work.

Grow our organization – CALs are expected to create and curate a community of professionals at MITRE that perform work in the capability area. CALs should facilitate opportunities for this community to share best practices, coordinate vendor engagements, and highlight the accomplishments of staff performing work aligned to the capability area.

The selected CAL will receive 5% allocation (4 hours per pay period) to perform CAL duties. This can be used entirely by the CAL or provisioned to other MITRE staff in support of CAL functions. The CAL’s primary role at MITRE should be performing work in Modeling and Simulation in support of critical infrastructure. The CAL will work 95% on other projects, hopefully in the area of Critical Infrastructure Modeling and Simulation capability area

The Critical Infrastructure Modeling and Simulation CAL is managed out of L542. If the selected candidate is not already in L542 they will be asked to transfer into that department.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of related experience; or Master’s degree with 7 years of related experience; or a PhD with 4 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Expertise with Modeling and Simulation, capabilities, technologies, and best practices.

  • Demonstrated collaboration across MITRE programs working in the capability area.

  • Demonstrate excitement for MITRE’s values and mission.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams, various sponsors, and across MITRE as appropriate. This includes leveraging relationships and experience to benefit staff and work programs.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

  • Top Secret is required.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with conducting modeling and simulation or building innovation solutions to improve analysis.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of Cyber Physical /OT/ICS/SCADA, security engineering to address new cyber challenges.

  • TS/SCI

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$168,500 - $210,500 - $252,500 Annual
