The Materials and Process Engineering (M&PE) Department, which functions within the Mechanical Engineering Discipline team, is seeking a Section Leader to lead our Advanced Materials section. As a Section Lead, the ideal candidate will be accountable for leveraging all the Mechanical Engineering and Materials and Process Engineering disciplines for technical execution of all engineering required for the development and manufacturing of missile hardware.

What you will do

  • Perform direct line management activities and provides leadership for approximately 10-15 engineers within this multi-disciplined group. These activities include technical oversight of CRADs, IRADs, projects and program support, as well as technical development of people, training, performance management, laboratory management, and resource allocation.

  • Perform individual contributor workload in the leader’s subject matter discipline.

  • Team with the Department Leader in the execution of Materials and Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Discipline and Raytheon Engineering goals.

  • Ensure two-way communication for section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments, performance, and recognition.

  • Responsibilities also include coordinating program staffing needs and reductions, optimizing resource utilization, and interviewing applicants.

  • Provide Materials and Process Engineering support to program’s product life cycle (design reviews, gate reviews, Material Review Board, Change Control Board, Process Change Board, and engineering peer reviews).

  • Provide oversight to ensure the accuracy of technical output of each assignment based on data and analyses.

  • Interface with other organizations across the Raytheon Enterprise such as Common Electronic Products, Mission Assurance & Quality, Operations, Reliability, and Supply Chain.

    Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in

  • Materials problem solving, such as process improvements or choosing alternate material or protective coatings to address specific material issues.

  • Materials characterization, or production engineering and/or competency with the use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.

  • Experience in materials engineering design, development and/or production support

  • Experience with EVMS (earned value management systems) or similar

  • Experience in military applications or environments

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

    Qualifications We Prefer

  • Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

  • Ten (10) years of experience in materials problem solving, materials characterization, or production engineering and competency with the use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques

  • Working experience with IPDS Gate Reviews, PDM, assembly drawings, material specifications and military specifications

  • Extensive experience in program system processes related to Material Review Boards, Material and Process Change Boards, Risk Boards, Engineering Review Boards

  • Familiarity with Engineering Team Strength, Labor Forecasting (ELF) or similar

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
