We have an exciting opportunity for a Compound Semiconductor Process Development Engineer to join our diverse III-V process development team working on gallium nitride-based devices and III-V focal plane array fabrication within the Advanced Microelectronics Solutions (AMS) Department. This role requires a broad understanding of microelectronics processing techniques such as deposition, etch, photolithography, metrology, and process characterization with expertise in one or more of these areas.
As a member of the AMS Department, the individual in this role will lead and execute process development efforts, assist in process sustainment, improve product yield, develop new processes and device capabilities, and assist in the creation of new technology discriminators in a III-V semiconductor wafer foundry. The chosen candidate is expected to be an innovative and creative thinker capable of probing issues and reaching solutions both independently and in a team environment. A significant portion of the role involves developing proof of concept demonstrations of novel semiconductor processes, identifying the yield and process improvement opportunities that exist, gathering sponsorship and team resources, and executing on continuous improvement activities. Presence on the foundry floor is essential for improving various wafer fabrication issues and quick resolution of technical problems. An ideal candidate should possess a willingness to learn various microelectronics processing techniques, tackle simple and challenging problems alike, engage coworkers, question processing rationales, and seek ways to continuously improve how things are done. The role requires a large degree of multitasking with attention to detail while managing priorities depending on the nature of the problems and the commitments to customers or program leads.
This role will be 100% on-site and based in Andover, MA.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Processing wafers to create FETs, MMICs, and FPAs in a cleanroom environment.
Expected to work well in small, cross-functional teams, assist in pursuing contract R&D, and assist in transitioning processes into production.
May manage small projects or processes within area of responsibility.
Work autonomously with limited oversight.
May provide input or guidance to lower-level professionals with tasks and assignments.
Influences others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.
Communicates with parties within and outside of own department. May have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g.,customers, vendors, etc.).
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 5 years of prior work experience OR a Master’s in STEM and 3 years of prior work experience OR a PhD in STEM.
Experience in semiconductor processing techniques such as: photo lithography, dry etching, metals evaporation, and optical or scanning electron microscope inspections.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s or PhD in STEM.
Clearly and succinctly document and present process development status in a team meeting.
Experience troubleshooting a diverse set of fabrication equipment in addition to establishing equipment qualification and preventative maintenance procedures.
Experience with statistical process control and lean manufacturing methods (eg, Six Sigma).
Experience related to semiconductor processing, device physics, and data analysis.
Experience utilizing data analysis software packages (e.g. MATLAB, Python, SQL, JMP).
Collaborate and lead and coordinate technical projects with diverse and cross-functional teams.
Experience with characterizing, understanding, and improving semiconductor device performance and reliability.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
