Job Summary

The Departmental Assistant, Information Technology maintains technology capabilities to support the mission of the Fine Arts Center (FAC). The person in this position coordinates the day-to-day computer operations for 30+ staff and their student employees and maintains the FAC-wide computer infrastructure.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures high quality and effective support for desktops, and mobile devices utilized by staff and student employees; troubleshoots and resolves client incidents and service requests.

  • Maintains FAC-wide technology computer infrastructures: desktops, laptops, network, and applications. Coordinates all computer hardware and software purchases, licensing agreements and customization of software programs; maintains a software library and hardware inventory list.

  • Provides consultation and technical end-user support to all FAC departments, including training in the areas of business computing, computer networks, peripheral devices, and livestreaming.

  • Maintains an electronic inventory of information technology; maintains departmental records regarding location, configuration, repair and replacement of equipment. Provides consultation on shared university licenses.

  • Liaises with university-wide information technology support resources.

  • Educates staff and student employees about security procedures and trains them on security tools, procedures and policies.

  • Maintains and updates documentation related to technical procedures and policies.

  • Assists FAC staff to prioritize IT-related work tasks for student employees.

Other Functions

  • Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet department, FAC, and university goals and objectives.

  • Contributes toward creating a positive and respectful workplace defined by personal and professional competence, integrity, and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Four (4) years of experience providing complex network and technology configuration, maintenance, support and incident response. Bachelor’s degree in IT-related field may be substituted for two (2) years of professional experience.

  • Knowledge and ability to use technologies and tools, preferable including Windows, MacOS, file server, web server, and basic business software.

  • Excellent organizational skills and flexibility to effectively manage multiple, emerging, and changing priorities. Ability to meet the demands of a complex environment where timeliness and availability of information is critical.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Work positively with staff and student employees with diverse skills, priorities and from diverse backgrounds as well as with vendors and outside service providers.

  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment and to make sound decisions.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Experience working in an educational setting.

  • Ability to design and develop clear instructional materials, and to communicate with patience and clarity, technical concepts to a non-technical audience, including individuals and cross-functional teams with diverse backgrounds and experience.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment.

  • Balancing, carrying, pulling/pushing, bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, climbing and driving on campus.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Schedule

  • 18.75 hours per week.

  • Occasional evenings and/or weekends.

  • This is a temporary, non-benefited position.

Salary Information

$25 per hour.
