Job Summary

Assists in the daily operation and maintenance of the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) Center for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (CAFE) Hadley Farm under the direction of the Farm Manager and Farm Superintendent

Essential Functions

  • Conducts daily facility inspections including but not limited to barns and outbuildings, fences, equipment, pastures, and paddocks. Reports all issues to management.

  • Maintains professional standards for cleanliness, organization, and upkeep.

  • Operates farm machinery including but not limited to tractors, loaders, mowers (both mounted and self-propelled), string trimmers, utility vehicles, etc. in support of farm operations, maintenance, and animal care.

  • Performs grounds maintenance as directed, mows and trims lawns.

  • Operates motor vehicles to travel to various work sites and/or to deliver supplies.

  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment (greasing, oil changes, and related lubrication, pressure washing, compressed air cleaning, etc.).

  • Assists in the maintenance of barns, fences, and related facilities. Duties include basic carpentry.

  • Assists in the daily care and feeding of horses and livestock as needed.

Other Functions

  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness.

  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • High School Diploma.

  • One (1) year experience in general farm maintenance and upkeep.

  • One (1) year experience in the operation and maintenance of motorized farm or landscape equipment.

  • Basic Carpentry Skills

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience in general farm maintenance and upkeep.

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience in the operation of motorized farm or landscape equipment.

  • Experience operating a tractor equipped with a front-end loader.

  • Experience using a semi-mounted rotary mower / brush hog.

  • Experience in the care of livestock and/or horses.

  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintenance / repair of electric fence.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • This position involves physical activities including standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, repetitive movement, bending, twisting, lifting, etc.

  • Incumbent must be able to lift 50 or more pounds repetitively.

  • This position involves and outdoor / farm work environment. Incumbent must be able to work in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation.

Additional Details

  • This is a temporary, non-benefited position.

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, up to 7.5 hours per day / 37.5 hours per week.

  • Flexibility in weekly scheduling is available.

Salary Information

  • $22.00 per hour.
