Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Senior Associate Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean of Students performs a variety of functions and responsibilities related to the delivery of student support services with primary responsibility for the day-to-day oversight of the Dean of Students intake process and case management services.
Essential Functions
Provides leadership and strategic direction for Dean of Students Office intake process and case management services.
Directly supervises three case managers and 1-2 graduate students.
Directs the implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures, and prevention efforts related to case management services.
Implements policies and processes for effective triage of referrals, follow up with students, and family/emergency contact notification in case of emergencies. Provide on-call, after hours coverage and response, including during University break periods and holidays.
Serve as a member of the Care Team and is responsible for the creation and maintenance of Care Team records. Conducts follow up with student, families and campus entities, and coordinates the implementation of recommended interventions.
Works on special projects that may include policy review and development, running reports and analyzing data, and developing and implementing programs and initiatives to educate the campus community about the Dean of Students Office programs and services.
Maintains effective partnerships with key departments including, but not limited to, Residential Life, Center for Counseling and Psychological Health, Student Success, UMass Amherst Police Department, Financial Aid Services, Bursars Office, Equal Opportunity and Access Office, and Equity, and Inclusion.
Stays abreast of legislation, legal precedent, and best practices as they relate to student services and student crisis response and takes steps to ensure policy and procedures are updated accordingly.
Uses data and best practice to develop and implement programs and services for the campus community and provides support, consultation, and training for faculty, staff, and students.
Supports the Dean of Students Collaborative Leadership team in the development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures. Represents the Dean of Students Office, and Dean of Students Collaborative on University committees.
Conducts programs and trainings and may assist in transporting materials and supplies.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Master’s Degree in a related field including but not limited to higher education, student affairs, public policy counseling education.
Five (5) years’ experience proving services to students at a residential college or university which includes significant and direct experience in supporting students navigating crises situation and/or basic need concerns.
Demonstrated ability and experience in developing and maintaining positive, collaborative relationships with internal and external constituencies.
Experience using a web-based software platform to initiate, track, and record work.
Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Suite and web-based applications.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and in developing inclusive communities and work teams.
Demonstrated experience creating and delivering trainings, workshops, and presentations.
Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
Typical office environment.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds of office or training materials, without restrictions.
Work Schedule
Typical work schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm.
Required to work some nights and weekends, including on call coverage.
