State of Massachusetts Network Engineer - Hybrid in 101 Federal Street, Massachusetts
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) seeks a Network Engineer reporting to the Information and Network Security Manager. This position is responsible for planning, designing, administering, and maintaining converged network infrastructure, unified communications, and enterprise network solutions and providing Tier II/III support. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: * Implement project plans as assigned by the Information and Network Security Manager, deliver progress reports, identify and communicate impediments, and provide clear and concise documentation on completion. * Plan, design, implement, and monitor network systems and installations. * Research, analyze, and recommend network design changes/enhancements, software or hardware changes for improved systems availability, enhanced performance, or to rectify network deficiencies. * Provide support for network connectivity or related network issues for the user community. * Analyze network activity and network problems to discover and prevent systematic errors. * Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve network problems. * Analyze facility bandwidth requirements and system interdependencies; develop capacity planning models. * Ensure planned testing activities are performed and technical criteria are met. * Assess network performance to ensure that it meets the present and future needs of the business; provide network planning recommendations to management. * Evaluate services provided by vendors and recommend changes. * Configuration and maintenance of routers, switches, and firewalls (Extreme and Fortinet). * Analyze ServiceDesk requests and handle them as appropriate * Maintain communication with ServiceDesk to resolve network or telecommunication problems. * Research new emerging technologies if requested. * Install new hardware and develop installation guides and standards for use within the agency. * Communicate effectively with stakeholders, technical support staff, and project teams. * Clearly communicate and/or escalate to management any IT operations issues or disruptions (planned or unplanned) to minimize user impact. * Required to travel to various sites as needed or requested. * Other duties as assigned. _Our Benefits_: Hybrid work environment; MA State Retirement Plan (Pension); a 9000 sq. foot on-site Fitness Center; Tuition Remission for yourself and your spouse to MA Community Colleges and State Universities; Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, and Disability insurance; 12 paid Holidays; Deferred Compensation 457(b) Plan; Flex Spending for Healthcare, Daycare, and Transportation; Three weeks’ Vacation to start , three Personal Days and 15 Sick Days per year; Health Insurance Buy-out option. /This Position is based in Boston, however it may require some in-state travel to MGM, Springfield; Encore, Boston Harbor; and Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville. Travel time will vary based on the MGC’s needs but it is estimated to be 25% of the time or less. / *Required Education and Experience*: * Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology with at least three years of relevant experience, or High School diploma/GED with at least five years of full-time or equivalent part-time, professional relevant experience and training required, of which at least three years must have been work directly related to the duties/responsibilities as outlined. * Certifications: Cisco Certified: CCNA and CCNP or Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer, Windows Server Hybrid, or Designing and Implementing Microsoft Azure Networking Solutions. * Experience configuring and implementing a multi-vendor hardware network within a cloud-based environment. * Hands-on experience and knowledge of Extreme Switches, Fortinet Firewalls, and Microsoft Azure. * Advanced knowledge of IOS, NX-OS, EIGRP, BGP, GRE and OSPF, Spanning-tree, VRRP, LAG, VLANS, SIP, H.323, MPLS. * Knowledge of commercial enterprise-level tools and products to provide network services, including firewalls, IPS/IDS, DNS, DHCP, web security, centralized authentication, VPN, and NAC. *Required Skills & Abilities*: * Familiarity with network, server, and storage virtualization. * Ability to create detailed Visio diagrams in support of network hardware deployments. * Knowledge of IT industry standards, change management processes, and use of enterprise standards change control procedures. * Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external groups in a team environment to improve overall customer service and support. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. * Ability to work independently, prioritize existing projects, and proactively determine areas requiring additional attention, monitoring, or maintenance. * Proven background in providing excellent customer service. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; think and act quickly to solve issues. * Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to provide the explanation of technology for nontechnical managers, directors, and above. Great people skills are a must. * Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and practices. * Ability to understand the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing all MGC activities. * Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle. * Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. & push 65 lbs. *Preferred Skills & Abilities*: The following preferred experience(s), competencies, and abilities are highly desirable for this position and will be considered in selecting the successful candidate: * Experience working with "Team-Based Practices," e.g., Agile, Kanban Etc. * Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects. * Ability to follow standard change management processes. Document and evaluate the impact of required changes to the various networked systems. Plan, schedule, and communicate changes to be implemented. * Ability to understand and follow sometimes-complex oral and written instructions. * Experience utilizing tools and research abilities to resolve technical issues. Salary is commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be required to pass an extensive background check that includes a full credit check, CORI, drug screen, and fingerprinting.
