State of Massachusetts Financial Investigator I in 101 Federal Street, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) is seeking to hire a Financial Investigator I. This position is responsible for working alongside Massachusetts State Police investigators in the Investigations and Enforcement Bureau (IEB) to perform background reviews of individuals seeking licensure. Financial investigative work includes, but is not limited to, review, validation, and analysis of information to determine an individual's integrity, honesty, good character and reputation; financial stability, integrity and background. The Financial Investigator I works in a team environment under the guidance of the Financial Investigations Division Chief who evaluates the Financial Investigator’s work through review of work papers and reports. *Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):* * Examine, analyze, and evaluate personal financial records (e.g., account statements, brokerage statements, tax returns, real estate documents, loan agreements, bank records, etc.) to determine source and adequacy of funds * Review financial information and/or reports from other gaming jurisdictions, and contact appropriate internal and external sources to confirm accuracy of financial data presented by applicants * Consider various personal background information, self-disclosures, and public information, in conjunction with all financial information, to determine the individual’s overall financial picture and character * Build knowledge and proficiency in conducting financial investigations of foreign individuals * Prepare clear and comprehensive financial investigation reports, standard and non-standard correspondence, document all work performed, and maintain files containing work papers and supporting documentation * Stay current with changes in the Federal taxing rules and regulations to evaluate financial information submitted by applicants * Collaborate with team members comprised of State Police and other Financial Investigators to conduct interviews and travel as necessary to conduct financial investigations * Support and assist the Financial Investigations team as required *Skills and Qualifications: * * Knowledge or basic business accounting concepts and an understanding of basic tax matters * Ability to perform research on specific issues that may arise * Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Sharepoint and PowerPoint * Experience performing financial analysis and preparing written financial reports *Minimum Experience, Education, and Training: * * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and at least 3 years of experience in a finance or accounting related role. Salary is commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be required to pass an extensive background check that includes a full credit check, CORI, drug screen, and finger printing. All employees of the MGC are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is responsible for the implementation of the expanded gaming law (Chapter 194 of the Acts of 2011).
