MIT Lincoln Laboratory Group 33: Software Engineering Fall CO-OP Student in Lexington, Massachusetts

The Advanced Sensor Systems & Test Beds group at Lincoln Laboratory develops and assesses integrated systems for defense against ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and air and maritime platforms in tactical, regional, and homeland defense applications. Activities in this mission area include the investigation of system architectures, development of advanced sensor and decision support technologies, development of pathfinder prototype systems, extensive field measurements and data analysis, and the verification and assessment of deployed system capabilities. A strong emphasis is on developing innovative solutions, maturing technologies, rapidly prototyping systems, and transitioning new capabilities for operational systems to the government and government contractors.

Job Description

Our systems and test beds run on software. The successful candidate will help our software team with development of realtime systems, signal processing, algorithms, and analysis. Software interns may specialize in low- or high-level programming language projects. A software engineering team is required to develop a real-time system to control and command sensors at our field site. Therefore, we are looking for a co-op with a wide range of backgrounds, including a candidate pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or computer engineering mathematics. Candidate needs to show ambition and motivation to start and finish a project. Specific project assignments may be tailored to the interest and background of the candidate.

Position Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a program working toward a BS, MS, or PhD degree in computer science, computer

  • engineering, engineering, physics, mathematics, or other technical fields

  • Minimum 3.5 GPA strongly desired

  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills

  • Python, C++, or Julia experience desired

  • Git version control experience; CI/CD experience desired

  • MATLAB skills are desired

Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
